I have been working at Crown Commercial Service full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Interview was tough but fair, great feedback given and friendly welcome. Really friendly environment to work in, very supportive team to join, always willing to help and pass on knowledge that may help your career/job role. Capital building in a great location in Liverpool town center- easily accessible to public transport. Progression/personal development seems to be a big part of CCS, and senior managers are willing to help and provide support, when they feel you are ready to progress. I have received alot of support since joining via my line manager with development opportunities such as training courses being provided. Overall I am very happy with my move to CCS and am looking forward to my future here.

    Cons

The only issue I have had since joining is that it has taken over 6 months for me to receive my work pass, this is a common issue with all new joiners, until then you have the share a visitor pass with other colleagues.

I have been working at Crown Commercial Service full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is more than any procurement / commercial job as it directly affects how the public sector spends its money

    Cons

Yes the business still can operate in a silo'd fashion but show me an organisation that doesn't....

I have been working at Crown Commercial Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the contracts are so large that CCS is effectively designing the way the market should be run, which is powerful and exciting (and a bit nerve wracking). They're starting to embrace better ways of working - like using Salesforce collaboratively, and having good data visibility. Pension is a career-average scheme (alpha scheme) and you can get flexi-time. I really do have faith in Malcolm and his SLT. They're very approachable and driven.

    Cons

Each location has wildly different corporate cultures. Liverpool is full of people up for a laugh; Norwich is s-l-o-w; and London is where almost all the senior managers are, the most-fast paced and pressured. [Sorry Newport- can't say I've had the pleasure.] Whatever salary level you join at, you will not progress much from where you start due to the current state of public sector finances unless you get promoted; bear that in mind when considering joining. There are no visible women at senior leadership level. They talk a good talk on diversity and inclusion, but it's the proverbial snow-capped mountain at the top. Some people really do take the mickey on high sick leave levels and claims of bullying when they would never ever survive in the private sector. And oh the bureaucracy!

I have been working at Crown Commercial Service full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Moved here from the private sector and love the work-life balance the public sector offers generally; however, at CCS it's positively promoted. Part of a great team that works together really well despite being spread across multiple locations. Great pension, some good benefits too with 'My Discounts' and via the Civil Service Sports Club.

    Cons

Having come from the private sector, it can take a bit of getting used to! It's like turning an oil tanker rather than a speed boat - nothing happens quickly and there are rules for everything. Bureaucratic but that can be part of it's charm. Pay is not amazing but the flexible working makes up for it.

I have been working at Crown Commercial Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A company that offers a good work life balance along with the opportunity to gain experience and training. Friendly staff in all office locations. Clear vision with company objectives along with how the staff can contribute to this with their objectives

    Cons

The pay isn't as good as the private sector but the benefits out way that. Coming from private sector it took a while to get use to the processes and civil service ways
