Pros

Mix of sharp and hardworking individual contributors and leaders

Cons

If there’s one sign that speaks volumes about a company it’s how they treat their past employees. No need to look further than the fact they threaten to sue. But there are plenty of more signals to watch out for. Like a quasi-authoritarian management style from people who feel entitled to receive white glove service from subordinates but don’t care to offer a baseline level of respect and empathy. This creates a culture predicated on fear driving dishonest behavior top-down. It’s uninspiring and toxic to see the place run by career politicians who flex all kinds of immature power plays.

Hi - Christina, CEO of Cube here. I’m so sorry to hear that this has been your experience. From day one, it’s been my mission to create an environment that embraces our values and is a place where amazing people can be successful. We’ve poured a ton of effort into building a great culture and your experience sounds very different from the people and environment that we’ve worked to create. As a current employee, I invite you to please connect with our People Team (if you’d like to remain anonymous) or schedule time with me. I’d love to learn more about how we can improve the experience for our former employees as well as your ideas on how we can enhance our culture while we scale. That said, I would like to address one comment made: We don’t take legal action lightly, and I can assure you that any course of action is only taken when advised by our attorney to protect Cube, our customers, and our current employees. We are committed to constantly improving the employee experience at Cube and know that we only get better with feedback from our team. Again, please reach out if you would like to discuss this further.

Pros

Solid product for SMB-MM sized finance teams. Great solution architects/implementation/support teams.

Cons

Middle management is extremely junior & isn't managed by executive leadership team. Often times communication/feedback never gets from middle management to executive leadership team. That said, executive leadership team are in over their heads with scaling company & often took feedback personally. ELT more concerned with "proving" their worth using misleading KPI's, rather than working on meaningful change to help scale a young company. ASK questions & don't ignore the red flags in the interview.

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your experience with the company. I’m glad to hear that you found the product to be solid and had positive interactions with the solution architects, implementation, and support teams. Regarding your concerns about middle management and communication with the executive leadership team, I’m sorry to hear that you have experienced gaps in the flow of information, and it sounds like this is something we need to do better on. In the meantime, I want to highlight some of the recent improvements we’ve made, which do begin to address the concerns you mentioned: - We’ve conducted upward management reviews and have been communicating those results to our leaders with plans of action - We’ve rolled out impact (performance) reviews for leaders and teams alike -We continue to host monthly management trainings to better prepare our leaders for company-wide changes and communication. -I have also increased the number of skip-levels I personally conduct with our departmental ICs to make sure that information is making its way across the business We are on a path to continuous improvement, and in that spirit, I invite you to connect with me 1:1 to discuss more specifics as I am appreciative of feedback so we can continue to grow.

Pros

- miraculously qualified for Forbes 2024 Best Startup Employers

Cons

Values-based only on paper. Expectations vs. reality below: - Simple->Paranoid: fear, paranoia, and mixed messages that destroy clarity and confidence in leadership. Unclear expectations at times when they think they’re being clear. - Nimble->Controlling: inflexible management, perfectionistic tendencies, red tape, and disregard for boundaries. Management demands a high bar from employees but won’t let go of control which leads to an overdrive focus on the minutiae and slows down actual progress. If frequent knee jerk reactions, flip-flopping, and backpedaling counts as “nimble”, then yes— they’re absolutely world class. - Joyful->Fake-nice: underneath the veneer of joy is two-facedness, gossip, and distaste & distrust of people who don’t fit in with the inner circle. Do not be fooled by the subtle lovebombing at first because they see you as the silver bullet to fix all the problems. Then that's inevitably followed by gaslighting if they think you miss their mark. - Human->Toxic: Toxic + “Human” don’t go together. Leaders are busy looking good and shmoozing the CEO over real performance while emotionally beating down employees. They start witch hunts to push people out, when they themselves are contributing to the problem. The ones that leave for bigger & better are often met with hostility, scapegoating, manipulation, and given the silent treatment.
