I have been working at DFID

    Pros

Good work-life balance, good exposure to international development work, learning and development opportunities, great working environment and a reputable organization in international development.

    Cons

Challenges balancing political and UK business interests and genuine untied development work; limited growth opportunities for locally engaged staff; too much work with limited human resources.

    Advice to Management

Never lose sight of the core mandate of DFID, that of poverty reduction. Also, focus on improving your human resource management strategy.

I have been working at DFID

    Pros

International experience; policy and development strategy exposure; employees are treatered well and there is generally a culture that respects staff and wants to develop their potential. Local staff have opportunities to take up international postings.

    Cons

Local staff opportunities for advancement are fairly limited, especially in the technical aspects of development work such as advisorial positions.

I worked at DFID full-time for less than a year

    Pros

In Pros I would say that its a U.K.Govt. organization...renowned donor and a good exposure to start off the initial stage of professional life as an Intern. In DFID India amongst all the units, ECGU Team (Energy and Climate Growth Unit) is a fun to work with. People are extremely helpful, friendly, humble and supportive. Zero hierarchy in the unit. Seniors are extremely supportive, always gives patient hearing. In short,...

    Cons

In cons, I am sharing my views for ART (Asia Regional Team) based at DFID India office ONLY. Terrible management and Rubbish system in ART, never recognize the hard work you put in, never believes in a healthy and positive communication and motivating people, lack of trust amongst team members, unsupported attitude towards team members, junior staff and rest of the DFID staff. Seniors are really impatient which makes...

    Advice to Management

In ART, allocate extremely Well Trained, Good and Well Mannered team leaders, seniors and advisers in the region. Provide good training on "Efficient Line Managers" to the senior level persons. Make it mandatory for every senior in the region. Perhaps this would help them to act like sensible and decent human beings. Allocate someone who knows how to consider every team member as a valuable asset, holds a good knowledge...
