RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at DLA Piper full-time for more than 5 years
Pros
A really intelligent business law firm with a dynamic global strategy. Opportunities are endless if you want to progress. They'll push you to excel, and try position you in a place where you want to be in you career. People are generally polite/respectful and committed - the culture of the firm demands it. Given the size of the firm, there are many opportunities for work travel/secondments. The company has a 'fight forever' mentality. They won't stand still and won't settle for second.
Cons
Some fee earner -v- support staff tension, but the same exists in all law firms. Certain areas of management do not take responsibility for disengaged/poor performing staff. A reputation for not paying market rates for business professions. However, the benefits offered are very competitive.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed your time at DLA Piper. It's employees like you that help shape our vision and culture. We think it's a great place to be and we hope you stay in touch through our alumni community. Thank you for your excellent review.

RecommendsI worked at DLA Piper
Pros
Amazing law firm, worked in the regions and I will still handling the work of a city lawyer in London.
Cons
Not getting paid the same amount for doing the same job as a person in London.
Pros
Big law firm and many initiatives
Cons
Quality of work differs significantly across teams

RecommendsNeutral OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at DLA Piper full-time for more than 3 years
Pros
They do care about you and there is a feeling that they genuinely want to do better in the future when it comes to social issues
Cons
If you are a woman your chances of ever becoming a partner are somewhere between slim and nonexistent in most offices. Pay is okay but nothing to write home about. There are definitely law firms that have sweeter deals.

As with all big law firms - the hours are long and the work is complex. You are on all the time. Management is mostly disconnected from reality

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at DLA Piper full-time for more than 5 years
Pros
I suppose its "global platform." (see cons below)
Cons
Its largely ineffective and confused global platform is the principal cause for work being cannibalized by one office on another. The emphasis is not on client relationship but on schmoozing with "internal" clients (i.e., other DLA offices). Referrals are the only way they get work to move and little to no emphasis is placed on obtaining 'real' clients. It's no meritocracy like other Big Law firms but one that encourages sycophancy. It's unfortunate -- there are a lot of talented people in its global network but the tribalism that exists in its major offices that seek to take away work from other offices will be this firm's downfall. Just look at the revolving door in this firm, the lack of minorities in its partnership ranks, the high turn-over rate...
