I worked at DONG Energy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Excellent benefits and working environment
    - In general most colleagues are very nice.
    - Senior Management are visible.

    Cons

    - Duplication of effort all over the business and far too easy for individuals to build empires.
    - Lots of commercial/strategy/finance people who push paper. Leads to a lot of people being involved in decision making.
    - None of Senior Management have 'ruthless' trait, which means risk of business becoming bloated.
    - Centralised decision making largely in Denmark, so hard to build a career in London, Germany for example.

    Advice to Management

Stop celebrating past glory and focus on running a lean operation

    Pros

Staff welfare, exciting projects in an emerging sector.

    Cons

Staff politics, slow to change processes which need urgent attention, departments fail to communicate so projects slip because processes do not work or there is lack of appropriate training. Bullying from designers.

    Advice to Management

I loved working on the project but there is too much staff politics. Money is thrown at the project to get finished at the end and there are major failures throughout the projects with lack of communication, lack of attention to detail, failing to get the Principle Contractor and designers to engage appropriately. Lessons learnt happen at the beginning but not the end of a project and the same mistakes follow through to the next project. Removing contractors after two years of employment is not cost effective and you lose valuable knowledge and business drive training up new staff. Contractor management staff are unprofessional and break all Human Resources rules discussing removal of staff and salaries with other parties which makes all staff untrusting and morale very low.
