As with any succesful business a lot is expected, on occasion too much

I worked at Dunelm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fast paced, different every day, great varied products, good store locations

    Cons

Every thing is checked three times, controlling senior management, plans for every thing, changes to store every week.

    Advice to Management

Be prepared to do has you are told and don't expect to be able to do what you think is right

I have been working at Dunelm full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly people Great progress Opportunity to move around the company Growing company Eco building Young team of people with lots of team nights out/social opportunities New CEO means that the company is changing and trying to improve. Pausa cafe in the building with employee prices. 15% employee discount in stores, including sale items and the occaasional double discount weekend. Lots of charity events to get involved with.

    Cons

Due to being a newish company they are still working on training - so you can feel like you've been thrown in at the deep end or sometimes feel like it's slow to get into the role. The office is rather cold most of the time - make sure you buy gloves and scarves Young team of workers can make it feel a bit cliquey at times. The little people, ie assistants sometimes don't get the reward yet they are a massive part of the company. (Don't get a share of the bonus) You can work over your hours and sometimes have to skip your lunch break. The Pausa cafe can be a bit limited in meal options, have the same sandwiches each day and don't really provide hot meal options for vegetarians. Some reports/projects are a bit long winded.

    Advice to Management

The company needs to sort out training and support the little people in the company. With John as the new CEO this seems to be one of the top priorities along with simplifying processes. I am looking forward to being part of the future of Dunelm.

I have been working at Dunelm full-time

    Pros

A great team to work with, everyone is keen to help each other. Great management team who are happy helping you to get where you want to go. The discount is great and a lot of fun incentives are thrown in

    Cons

There is not really much to say here, the only slight annoyance is booking holidays is difficult even if they are generous with the number of holidays they allow you

    Advice to Management

Keep recognising the talent of the staff you have

    Pros

The wage isn't too bad! The staff are wonderful which makes a good team! Also you get 15% discount in store and in the coffee shop!

    Cons

If you want to work full time then being at Dunelm isnt the place! Your hours are never the same, hours get cut without notice. One day you could be working over 30 hours the next back down to 16 hours! Managers are too scared to say no to customers!

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff right and more hours would be nice!

I have been working at Dunelm part-time

    Pros

Overall a very good organisation to be a part of with a very friendly team and good scope for progression if in a full time position.

    Cons

Employees were expected to have a very strong product knowledge almost on the first day, which is impossible when dealing with very specific products. Perhaps this is only because I was in the fabric and curtain department (which is not actually the job I applied for).

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a better induction for new starts, rather than the basic outline and overview of the store e.g. where the toilets are. It does not prepare new employees for the job.
