I have been working at Dyson full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked for Dyson as a full-time Territory Sales Manager for almost 4 years. Overall, it was a very positive experience in that there was always new technology being introduced and new products being launched. My salary was relatively competitive and their employee benefits package is outstanding.

    Cons

Nothing specific to share that's not something one encounters within almost any organization. Some personalities weren't a great fit for the job they were hired to do and some members of upper management had enormous egos. None of this detracted from my job satisfaction on a day-to-day basis.

    Advice to Management

Try to be more in-tune with regard to really hearing employee feedback.

I worked at Dyson full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked in the field, so I could set my own schedule for the most part. The company car was also nice.

    Cons

You will not see the bonuses they tout during your interview. They never tell you what the goal is or what you hit, they just tell you it wasn't met. There really aren't many ways to move up unless the manager over you is fired or quits and they happen to be in your area. My job was primarily to clean vacuums in retailers and not "sales" like they claim. Not hard work, but it is boring and you will touch a lot of gross stuff cleaning those vacuums! Much lower pay than similar job titles at other companies.

    Advice to Management

Get better managers. The sales managers in the field (which change frequently due to reorgs) are pretty worthless and way under worked. Managing 3-7 people is nothing and half of the time my manager didn't seem to even understand what she was asking us to do.

    - I have seen other companies with horrible cultures, I'm very thankful I get to be part of this company

    Cons

    - none at this time

    Advice to Management

There have been some great folks put into the right spots recently. I cannot wait to see the results.

I have been working at Dyson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You work with a leading consumer good and the products are faultless.

    Cons

    Way too much micro managing.
    Poor moral within company.
Terrible attitude from management becoming too arrogant about the product.
You are always fixing stuff ups from Marketing to store execution.
And absolutely no discretion from Management on how others are performing in the company. It's like working with the class gossip from Primary School.

    Advice to Management

Take a step back from all your ridiculous reports you make your team do, and actually guide and train your teams rather than back stab and talk about everyone behind there back. There is such a lack of respect about each individual team member, when management tell other teams who's on a performance plan and who they want to move out of the company. Everything is one big secret at Dyson except your personal performance good or bad.

I worked at Dyson full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Products are fun and easy to sell
    - Perks such as company car, paid cell phone
    - Travel for the job
    - Flexibility
    - Good work/life balance
    - Company credit card
    - The people are generally cool
    - The company does well from a profit standpoint

    Cons

    - 600 W Chicago Ave Chicago, IL 60610 - What ever company culture that has been ingrained in the place needs to change
    - Outside hires, always a head scratcher
    - Inside promotions, always a head scratcher
    - Deceitfulness
    - A propensity for leadership to make promises and not deliver
    - Questionable business practices, such as how employees are rated & reviewed
    - Doesn't put money back into business (people)
    - Bonus, what bonus?

    Advice to Management

I started at Dyson when it was a fun place to work with hard working peers who I learned a lot from. When I left it had become all about CYA and there were some bad people working in important roles who judge and criticized peers, subordinates and senior management and did morally questionable things. The UK folks have the wool pulled over their eyes because across many departments in the US there are people who lack the talent and skill to be effective leaders and run a business.

I worked at Dyson full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Dyson stands behind the technology and engineering in their vacuums. They make a good product that is at the top of the category and are always looking for ways to improve upon that technology. They have created a great brand much like Apple.

    Cons

The company does not care for their employees. I worked for dyson for 4 years. When I first started working they did make it about their employees and cared for their well being. They knew that the employees is what helped make their brand. As they continued to grow they brought in new upper management and that mentality went out the window. They will find anyway to get rid of good employees if it means they can make another buck.

    Advice to Management

Go back to what made you a good company and that is caring for your employees.

    Pros

    Awesome product the consumers liked

    Cons

Management was indecisive and disrespectful to employees. The company as a whole is very clique and immature in personality. Regional Managers were flighty and glory grabbing.

    Advice to Management

The company needs to provide mature leadership with direction and stop worrying about pointing the finger towards other associates.
