Thank you for your very positive feedback about your time at Elexon. I am interested in your comments about not being able to obtain any qualifications from training. This is an interesting point as we do have a healthy training budget but maybe we should review this again if training opportunities are not, in your opinion, meeting the needs of our staff. We are very keen to invest in our staff and training is a key part of that commitment, so thanks for the heads up. We did previously have a graduate scheme but we are now revisiting this with the potential to opening it up much more by partnering with local colleges to offer work experience to support further education. We would certainly like to continue our support for the local area and are always exploring new methods of offering training and skill advancement to local schools. Brett Buchanan Head of Resourcing

Thank you for your review on Glassdoor. The comments you have made about training and hybrid working are certainly areas we are reviewing at the moment. We are keen to ensure that we are investing in our staff as part of our culture and values as well as in meeting the challenges of current working practices. Our training budget is quite robust and aims to support the development of careers and opportunities within Elexon. We are currently trialling variations to hybrid working to find a balance between the various needs identified by our staff. That said, change is such a constant in the employment arena that we always aim to be flexible and adjust to different pressures as they arise. Thank you for taking time to submit your feedback. Thank you for your review of Elexon via the Glassdoor site. The one word statement of “Great” is wonderful to see. It reassures us that people at Elexon enjoy their work and enjoy our company culture. We are certainly aiming to manage both areas well so that we offer the best we can for our staff. It is true that some areas of the company can seem quite static, where progression is concerned. However, we hope the type of work we can offer staff and the skills they will acquire will balance out this concern. We have lately refreshed our competency framework as a way of ensuring that staff can take advantage of new opportunities as they arise. Interestingly, we recently ran a couple of workshops around knowledge sharing as this has appeared in staff feedback on a number of occasions. We are now looking at a knowledge solution to support our business teams in their ability to access and share information. This will also help new starters who often struggle with the number of acronyms we use. Only this week we launched a Jargon Buster wiki that staff can contribute to when they encounter terms that they think other staff may need to know about. Feedback about the creation of the Jargon Buster has been very positive and we have had a number of valuable contributions already from our business teams. Thank you again for your feedback. Slow to adapt to change

Thank you for adding your feedback to our Glassdoor account. It is always useful to have these as it gives us an insight into how our employees are experiencing work at Elexon. Always good to see positive comments about being a great place to work and that interaction with our staff also remains positive. I note that you have also added a comment about “Slow to adapt to change” as a response to the negative aspects of working at Elexon and that your experience is based on your role as a Business Analyst. This is a helpful insight as there are some areas of the business that can respond more quickly to change compared to others. This may be because there are constraints that hold back certain levels of adaptation but we are keen to ensure that our new culture and values take us on that proactive path. We definitely want to continue to review processes when we find blockers and aim to remove or mitigate them wherever possible. Some are a little more tricky than others, but the role of our BAs will certainly be essential to this review process and in helping us identify where changes can be made. Thank you for sending through some feedback to us about your work experiences at Elexon. Excellent to see that we score well as a good place to work and that the arrangements we have introduced to be a flexible employer have worked for you. You have referenced as “cons” that there is too much bureaucracy and this is something we are keen to regularly review. Although we are a procedure-orientated organisation as the administrator of the BSC, we do need to ensure that we keep focusing on what we deliver and to do that quickly and efficiently. We have put together a set of new company culture values and there are two that are aiming to reduce the bureaucracy where appropriate: “Working at pace” - agile and accountable, and “We focus on what matters” - proportionate and outcome focussed. There has been some progress already and I expect more to be achieved as we actively imbed these principles into our work practices. Brett Buchanan Head of Resourcing

It's wonderful to hear that your time with Elexon has been a positive one and that it was in large part due to our company culture as well as the people at Elexon. Yes, unfortunately Elexon's work and the electricity industry does involve a lot of acronyms and this can be quite hard for new members of staff, as well I might say, for fairly established staff, including me. Our new CEO has been speaking to new members of staff and the subject of acronyms has certainly come up. In response to this we are currently working on improvements to our on-boarding processes as well as creating a central knowledge list that will be available to all staff.
