Catchy Ideas Poor Execution Toxic Environment

Pros

There is no denying the ideas are really neat. Catchy, buzzy, would be great if real products were coming out. A bit of of a "Willy Wonka" chocolate factory, can be a great place to play around and feel interesting.

Cons

Lack of substance behind the ideas. Over-promotion, overhype, lack of execution. Ego driven male leadership. Toxic work environment, where you will be told listening and caring are important and the team is valued, words that make one feel great and are great if acted upon, unfortunately they are not here. One idea one day, another the next, cut corners, execute poorly, take advantage of people. Management does not listen. It is a revolving door of employees, the best leave, the issues stay, no shortage of folks around town or who have left with a bad taste from their experience here. Would not recommend working here. It looks really interesting from the outside, I get that, so does peanut butter in a mouse trap to a mouse - avoid.

Good ideas, but too scattered to execute and follow through

Pros

Flexible schedule, managers definitely understand that sometimes you need to take care of your home life during business hours. Fair pay, good benefits Would recommend to others to work there if you can handle a very scattered organization.

Cons

Treats production workers like second class citizens. Many employees abuse the flexibility and barely show to work. If one or two people are "workhorses", they get piled on by everyone else that needs someone to actually...get work done. Under-utilizing employees' expertise for the sake of doing things the way CEO wants them done...i.e. "creatively". Very loose "behavior" policies. It's a business, not a frat house! I'm afraid being associated with this company has marred my professional image. Some higher-ups are just so, so rude and entitled. Impossible to work with.

Great to hear this former employee had some great experiences at Ecovative. You are correct, that to be successful at Ecovative you need to be flexible, willing to adapt to change, and open to sometimes bold ideas. It stinks that you felt we treated employees differently. We believe that we not only provide equal opportunities to all employees; we provide cross training, development, equal time off, and EAP benefits for employee’s personal use. There certainly are roles that are required to be on site full time; with that said, we believe work life balance is critical and provide workspace flexibility as needed. Our management team continues to work on ways to elicit feedback and implement ideas across the business. We definitely have fun at work. We work hard and reward our employees with relaxing fun get togethers. With that said, we have definitely embraced the balance between professionalism and creating an awesome culture as we have grown as a company. There’s a lot of smiling at Ecovative. If there was rudeness in the past, we definitely don’t feel that today. We expect our employees to provide open feedback to management, employees are encouraged to speak directly with managers and HR with any concerns. We subscribe to an open door policy. Developing research companies pivot. Our strategy is clear and we continue to drive our mission of working with nature throughout the business.

Pros

Met some interesting people, got to play with some tools.

Cons

Poor management, poor leadership, disconnect between people within the company. Unrealistic goals and timelines. Set up for failure. Frequent layoffs every few years. Male dominant openly sexist culture.
