I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Big global agency - international network Clear path of promotion Flexible and remote working Big name clients Nice office space

    Cons

Money comes first over people No support for juniors - usually pushed to breaking point with demanding accounts and leadership then blamed for anything that goes wrong No team culture - drinks and socials only happen when people leave or at offsite days/Christmas No creativity in work - rely on being a big name in industry but work is generally pretty average and copy/paste year to year and account to account... Not willing to say no to any client requests - staff are worked till they drop (have actually had people faint in office and be told to keep working) Long hours

    Advice to Management

Put your staff first and prioritise their health and well-being. Team can’t produce good work if everyone’s over resourced and working 12 hours every day of the year.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than a year

    Pros

High-degree of flexibility to work on other areas of the business, and a good roster of 'stick'y global brands and high-profile work.

    Cons

As a private company, it's clear Edelman protects its private interests (i.e. stakeholder & board profits) first, over employee satisfaction & retention. If the company wants to attract & retain top talent, it needs to start treating its own like top talent. The word 'transparency' is bandied-about in company emails ad nauseum, despite completely conflicting directives, and Edelman London has an... inflexible, immovable approach to company policy, which ultimately creates a toxic, and resentful employee base. However, team units often have a healthier culture than the broader practices, and definitely more-so than the company as a whole, despite extremely confusing & backwards approaches to role progression and pay/remuneration. Don't expect Edelman to promote or pay based on a meritocratic system; this is one of the more highly-politicised environments I have ever worked in.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Location, big reputation clients, cross collaboration with other teams, cafe.

    Cons

Line management is the worst i've experienced in an agency. Lying culture to team from management. Bullying from senior staff is encouraged by other senior staff. Lack of diversity, very whitewashed.

    Advice to Management

Train line management so they are at least adequate at their job.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great company benefits Cool Christmas party Free toast for breakfast Pretty office Get to work with some huge clients

    Cons

Where to start..... You are always expected to be working, I feel sorry for juniors as they are literally expected to dedicate their lives to the job. Weekend working is too common and there are some individuals who will want to have calls with you at either 7am or 10pm....there is no work life balance whatsoever. Deadlines are poorly planned.

I worked at Edelman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Dynamic and creative teams; opportunities to build a wide variety of PR and marketing experience quickly; commitment to training and skill development for staff; young and passionate people

    Cons

Slow to recognise and promote; slow to hire; will staff accounts using freelancers working remotely; fosters a blame culture; will put inexperienced people in positions of responsibility without sufficient oversight; too top heavy in levels; choose clients over staff wellbeing; encourage long hours of working across all levels

    Advice to Management

Accounts are rarely staffed appropriately for the work often relying on team members to work long hours or across broad level gaps or to rely on freelancers to support delivery which is a highly stressful way of working. Management are often not solutions orientated enough in helping to over comes this. It is also not uncommon for more junior team members to be working 50-60 weeks with part time Directors working... Considerably less. There is a blame culture when things go wrong and there seems to be a need to know who is at fault rather then dealing with it as a team. Promotions are slow to happen and despite working at the level above you for long periods, across multiple accounts, you must be seen to do everything perfectly 100% of the time to get the promotion which damages moral - there isn't a pragmatic approach to promotion allowing for ironing out of minor rough spots at the next level. Accounts are often chosen for the opportunity they bring rather than whether they are the best fit for the team which makes working on the accounts difficult and disheartening; there is a releuctabcy to fire clients even when they prove to be difficult and are clearly the barrier to delivery of projects and the well being of teams.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is incredible talent at Edelman and the people are the best part about the job. I can only comment on the Corporate team, who are very supportive of each other and have a great team culture making for a rewarding and fun working environment, which is crucial in the fast faced and very demanding environment of a top PR (or marketing communications as we now are) agency. Corporate has recently come under new... management and is thriving. Edelman offers a chance to work with some big household names on big budgets making for interesting and varied work. There are excellent opportunities for career development, ample training options, and good perks including annual and spot bonuses, high annual leave and summer and Christmas team/agency parties.

    Cons

Edelman London is a large agency with single teams of more than 80 people which dictates a lot of it culture, and isn't for everyone. At the fast pace of agency life it's easy for some people to become lost. There are quite different cultures across the different teams so it's worth trying to speak to someone on your specific team to see if you think it's the right fit. Junior members should expect to work early... and/or late hours relatively often and have more accounts than they can really successfully handle. People do appreciate this is a problem and are supportive of juniors but essentially it is expected for a few years. A lot of people come to Edelman because it is international. This allows you to have experience working with teams across the network which is great, but bar a very small (12 ppl globally), competitive programme which relocates you for one year there really aren't opportunities to move abroad that easily unless you have been there a long time (5+ years) and have proven your loyalty.
