I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fast-moving. High-profile clients. Work that has impact. Entrepreneurial environment. Work-hard, play-hard. Profile of West Coast team improving. Growing team. Relationship with Edelman is positive

    Cons

Workload can be heavy at times. Occasional long hours. Some unstructured working (just make it happen!). Introverted personalities sometimes get overlooked.

    Advice to Management

Continue to position Research and Analytics as central to good marketing. Clarify offering to clients.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Top clients, some staffers are smart, opportunity to learn if you want it.

    Cons

Work is somewhat disconnected from the main company and in the case of clients, from the client bottom line concerns.

    Advice to Management

Reorganize and build a more cohesive structure. Communicate more with the rank and file.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Opportunities for growth -Incredible clients -Smart, hard working colleagues -Vision backed by CEO's investment and puts his money where his mouth is.

    Cons

It's a demanding place to work and if you're not careful, your work/life balance will get away from you. Set parameters and stick by them. Everyone has families and this is a family firm...

    Advice to Management

Increase junior salaries. Brutal to lose a great talent to another firm who is just a little bit higher in salary. Be willing to pay a bit more for someone you want.

    I worked at Edelman

    Pros

Privately Held; Global Network; Respected Brand; Clients

    Cons

Edelman manages its external image smartly through its media connections and PR know how. Unfortunaetly it doesn't apply the same energy and creativity to cultivating its staff and workplace. At one time it was an organization where you'd fine real stability and consistency in the ranks but turnover and politics have become negative forces and the culture has suffered. The agency structure has a large base of junior staff...

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Still a great executive management team. Fantastic talent across the global network and blue chip clients offering amazing opportunities for strategic and creative work.

    Cons

Horrible management at group head and MD levels. Manipulative and divisive, they breed a culture of paranoia and insecurity, then wonder why bad behaviors start to manifest. Boys club mentality, with misogynistic undertones - feels punitive for women with strong opinions. Management plays favorites and career progression not merit based but based on politics. Overall not a supportive environment. Feels like leadership...

    Advice to Management

Stop lying. Start treating your employees like human beings. Invest time and resources into helping develop your talent instead of trying hard to crush people's confidence. Work to create a meritocracy and be more transparent in your decision making processes.

I worked at Edelman part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Big agency experience, good clients

    Cons

Very political and seems that only men are in the super senior positions (there a FEW key women - but it's mostly men).

I worked at Edelman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Big company, smart people, resources. International, and that gives people the opportunity to travel, work abroad and try different options.

    Cons

Politics & siloed operations really hinder teamwork and client service. Offering is pretty dated by now. Would benefit from fresh senior leadership in key roles.

    Advice to Management

Rethink the client service experience: client first. Broaden offerings in digital marketing.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The best talent and the best clients. Opportunity to learn a lot of facets and best practices of the PR business. Excellent perks and benefits.

    Cons

Hours can be long and unpredictable. Switch groups, accounts, etc. or risk being pigeonholed. The transition from traditional PR to what Richard Edelman calls "communication marketing" is uncertain and frustrating at times, though I think that's unavoidable.

    Advice to Management

Managers need to try new things too, but sometimes it feels like we're too expensive to be allowed to take risks.
