I have been working at Edelman full-time

    Pros

Global, connected, smart people, leading IP

    Cons

Culture can be hard, no respect for work/life balance, it's a struggle to transform into an integrated creative agency.

    Advice to Management

Hire more inspirational leaders. Focus on your staff

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Incredibly smart people who are at the cutting edge of the industry - Clear vision of where the agency is heading to help clients in changing time - Strong thought leadership and intellectual property - Good culture that helps people push their careers forwards and works to solve client problems in an integrated way

    Cons

    - Can be very fast moving given the focus everyone has - There is always a lot going on given the depth of thought leadership, IP and pilots to drive new client offerings

    Advice to Management

    - Keep driving forwards - it's great for our clients and our people - Continue to build the integrated culture and team approach we need for our clients - Keep selecting the best talent - it's great to work with such brilliant people

I have been working at Edelman full-time

    Pros

-Entrepreneurial and encourage risk -Great global network -Smart people -Opportunity for mobility

    Cons

-Long work hours due to inefficient staffing -Little culture -Extremely competitive -- every man/woman for his/herself vs. fostering a team mentality

    Advice to Management

Closely examine how accounts are supported and who bears the load. It is an environment where few benefit from the hard work of many.

"Great US business, global mobility is a major challenge"

I worked at Edelman full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Have great things to say about Edelman in the US - worked in NY and had experience working in many US markets - fair treatment, consistently work with smart people, good clients.

    Cons

Edelman's mobility program is a nightmare and globally so are many of the company's offices. Edelman advertises mobility as one of its core means of career enhancement but unfortunately the experience for me and many friends of mine was a disaster. Anyone looking to transfer to the UK, watch out - there are serious challenges in that office, the HR department is nonexistent, and the salary bands are completely different...

    Advice to Management

Globalize your mobility program. Edelman has serious business needs in global markets and the fact that the company is willing to move top talent to fill these roles should be a huge asset. Instead it's the biggest criticism I can make of the company from my time at Edelman. Also: fix the UK office specifically. The issues there are serious.

    Pros

Great accounts, which is great if you're starting off in your career Stable agency - strong and steady growth Really smart people Very creative individuals willing to come up with inventive ways to solve client problems

    Cons

Junior members of staff work incredibly long hours Hiring seems to be concentrated on really senior individuals, or 'vanity hires' - who sometimes do not add much value to the organisation Although the policy has changed, there was a conflict between the accounts the firm represented and its own values

    Advice to Management

Reward junior and middle management staff better

I worked at Edelman full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Creative, fun and smart people. Strong opportunities for growth if you work on the right team/for the right manager. Strong values that employees can feel inspired by.

    Cons

Inconsistent policies + enforcement of policies Never ending new "initiatives" that roll out each year - with zero integration into last year's policies. Confusing leadership structure at the very top that leads to chaotic decisions/lack of clear roadmap Poor communication Company doesn't always live up to their own stated values.

    Advice to Management

Slow down - think about the long term. Spend more time on things that don't necessarily generate obvious revenue (ops, finance, HR). Be more strategic and stop leaping from initiative to initiative. Over communicate to employees - be proactive instead of reactive.

      Pros

Edelman is a fantastic place to begin a career, especially if one's boss is an active advocate for their professional development. You will meet people and have a host of experiences that can propel one's career -- clients come to Edelman with interesting and unique problems, and there are genuinely smart people to call colleagues to tackle these problems. Cons

The insurance is downright horrible and our deductible has gone up rather significantly (good luck finding a doctor for something as simple as a physical accepting new patients that accepts it), so are the 401K benefits, which vests after 3 years at a maximum of 60 percent matching (up to 4 percent of salary), which is not competitive. Pay increases has not kept pace with the increase of costs of medical/other costs.

      Pros

Get to mentor and work with smart people who are eager to learn and grow. Opportunity in learning and pushing your thinking with creative ideas. Get to work on cool and high-profile clients, including those that make positive change. Benefits are standard.

      Cons

Unfortunately having a bad manager can make/break a situation for a team. Long hours guaranteed (agency life), but if you survive this you can tackle anything.

      Advice to Management

Make sure to support good leaders and be more in-tune in moving out poor ones.
