I have been working at Edge Hill University full-time (More than 5 years)
Pros
Friendly, supportive, ambitious, progressive and fast moving
Cons
Not a russel university, a bit further away from relevant activity, new in terms of research activity and in need for further internalization
I have been working at Edge Hill University full-time (Less than a year)
Pros
I have had a great welcome and found staff and senior management very supportive and friendly.
Cons
So many wellbeing activities and employee benefits to choose - which ones do I opt for?!
I have been working at Edge Hill University full-time
Pros
Worked here for 20 years
Cons
Can't really progress unless you have a degree
Advice to Management
Treat support staff same as academics

Pros
There are the usual benefits for an organisation of this size - pension, life insurance, travel to work schemes etc. and good facilities on campus for food and drink plus markets and events for students that staff can use too. There are lots of opportunities for internal training organised by HR but it can be hard to work out what the courses are about and a lot you can't take part in until you've been there over a year (and then these schemes only run once a year so you may have to wait years to be able to do them).
Cons
Unfortunately the organisation has no real strategic direction. We receive regular emails from management encouraging everyone to increase student numbers but heads of department won't set anyone targets (for teams or individuals) or give any strategy or work objectives. Some of the people are nice but no-one is given any purpose so problems are not dealt with and nothing ever progresses. I was given no induction when I started, only a talk from the VC three months into my role. I wasn't even shown round the campus, just given a map by my manager and told to get on with things, but with no idea what to get on with as our department had no plans at all or any objectives to work to. People are very disorganised, no-one ever shows up for meetings on time and understanding company policies is very difficult as nothing is ever explained. Not really sure what senior managers do that justifies the high tuition fees and most staff seem to have a lot of free time. Hardly ever had any team meetings, probation meetings never happened on time and no 1-to-1s or similar to check up on progress or have a chance to speak to manager about work.
Advice to Management
Induct staff properly and have proper structures for inductions. Give staff objectives to work to and managers should meet with them to check progress so people feel supported and like they are making progress in their roles.

Pros
Nice campus and good Facilities
Cons
Bullying by departmental managers is commonplace. Opportunities to progress
are limited.
Advice to Management
Implement your own policies on bullying and harassment. Hold managers to account and ensure they fulfil their responsibilties in providing support to junior staff.

I have been working at Edge Hill University full-time (More than a year)
Pros
Beautiful campus but good culture does not survive on nice plants and artificial lakes.
Cons
You can't park & the bus service & train is hard if you are disabled.
Very poor knowledge of disability support for staff on campus.
Expect to feel like an outsider fir a very long time.
Little knowledge & capacity around research, if you want to do any you'll be seen as odd (in some Faculties). Ethnic diversity in staff & students is low.
Advice to Management
Modernise your capacity building & staff support. Recognise the risks of ignoring disability legislation & support your staff. Recognise your lack of staff diversity & do something about it.
