Pros

Stable company founded in 1906 .

Cons

Horrible culture. No real leadership Inept management high turnover, high anxiety. Management offers no guidance and assumes that they understand highly technical systems that are out of their depth to an embarrassing degree. i.e. finance department managing technology department. Very unpleasant experience and most employees on edge due to fear/threat based leadership style of the CFO. Lots of in-fighting and dishonesty. I was recruited from a company that was stable and familiar and accepted the offer because of the excellent compensation but once on board flaws quickly became apparent and protocols and procedures were non-existent. Access for data bases and systems were given to non-paid friends of CFO for troubleshooting because "my friend is good with computers and can probably help with the issue" systems would be altered with no audit trail and the problems that followed would be left to employees to correct. Very unprofessional environment that was incentivised by threats and fear. CFO mantra was that she needed "one throat to choke" if any issues arose. I would advise any supporting proffessionals i.e. non-architect/designers to proceed with caution. No respect for employees and exessive micro management.

Pros

Working at one of the oldest and most accomplished architectural firms.

Cons

This company is experiencing significant challenges in innovating and growing in line with the latest architectural trends due to its horizontal organizational structure. Furthermore, a group of experienced managers and principals is resistant to change in their architectural practices. This core group of personnel has not undergone significant changes or demonstrated innovation in a considerable amount of time. When new ideas are proposed, upper management often lacks patience and responds with criticism and questioning, discrediting any suggestions. The primary objective of this office is to complete projects with the smallest possible team to maximize profits. While upper management initially presents a friendly demeanor, they eventually become adversaries when their traditional methods are not implemented. This leads to exploitative work conditions, a need for constant submissiveness to higher management, backstabbing among colleagues, and a revolving door of personnel (high hiring during periods of need and high layoffs when work becomes scarce). Additionally, the office imposes unrealistic expectations, such as excessive workloads, long working hours, and open availability. The work environment is characterized by cutthroat behavior and a toxic atmosphere. Overall, if you are seeking a never-enough mentality, poor communication, inadequate planning, a constant work ethic, minimal or no mentorship, and a willingness to work long hours for a low salary, this organization may be suitable for you.
