Culture of fear ruining a good company - Finance AstraZeneca Employee Review

      Pros

Fantastic facilities (not to mention brand new global HQ, the DISC) Dynamic science turning into life-saving treatments Diversity (nationality, ethnicity, etc.)

      Cons

Culture of fear - people afraid to speak out against bullying and unprofessional conduct Personality cults - middle management seem to worship senior leaders rather than treating them as real people. Names of senior leaders regularly invoked like spells to coerce people. Poor work-life balance - people often are implicitly told to work evenings and weekends because their managers and/or their peers do. Diversity but no inclusion - a diverse work force does not mean that everyone's opinions are valued and respected.

        Pros

I had an amazing internship experience at AstraZeneca last summer. I worked with a talented team doing metabolic-related bioanalysis and bioinformatics.

        Cons

The site in South San Francisco is far away from where I want to locate.

          Pros

There will always be favoritism wherever you go but if you work hard enough, the actual good leaders will recognize your efforts and help you on your career journey at AZ. I was lucky enough to have managers who actually saw this, others weren’t as fortunate. Pay is decent, considering I came from a CRO that paid very little. Bonus structure was good as long as the company performed well. Work/life balance wasn’t great…when I first started there, my team manager yelled at our team for not meeting goals (even though some of us were meeting our individual goals) and said “you guys are being paid more so you should do more”. This really helped bring up our team morale *please note sarcasm* Thankfully, I was able to move to another team where the sup and manager actually worked together to keep our team motivated and treated us like team members rather than plebeians. Overall, I had a positive experience at AZ by the end and was sad to leave my team.

          Cons

Voicing opinions that may be negative in the eyes of senior leadership will likely get you black balled

Is it normal that after the pre-interview with HR, and after he mentioned I would have the first interview with manager xx, he just disappeared? I sent an email and called the office a week later but no answers from him. Is this the way KPMG recruit people? He also contacted me two months later from the day I applied.

I've been on the job market for the past 4 months, facing challenges with securing interviews. I'm contemplating enrolling in Career Elevator (www.mycareerelevator.com) to refine my interview skills. Additionally, I'm intrigued by ApplyAll.com, a tool for automating job applications. Has anyone used either program to enhance their job search? I'm eager to learn more and would greatly appreciate any advice or insights you might have! Thank you in advance for your help!

        Manager

Confused. Currently working for a mid sized firm with big clients but have been offered a role through my network for a relatively small startup but a with higher designation / lead role & similar salary to my existing pay. The new role is more strategy + lead but non technical while my current role is managerial level but more technical. If in my position, would you stay in your current role or take the new one?? Happy to answer follow up questions. Thank you.
