Pros

The pay is just ok. If you're African American, you have some protection here. You do get to work from home two days a week, as long as they're not consecutive days.

Cons

Their probationary period is a full year, during which time they can fire you for any reason or no reason. Specifically regarding the Human Resources department: the training was incredibly insufficient for such a high stakes job ("watch these demo videos and learn the Employment Plan"), there was no mentorship, no trainer on staff, the Chief of HR is a "mean girl" and the head of Compliance is another one. If you're not a "nepotism kid" (that is, you don't have family or close friends with clout elsewhere in the County government), you are at risk of developing major health issues as a result of the stress from trying to make it in this department. Not only that, but they don't take it well if you actually use your PTO - it seems to indicate a lack of commitment (rather than the truth which is that you will need the PTO to retain any semblance of sanity and health).

Pros

Work is not too difficult, does require some physical activity, such as lifting. Tablet is easy to learn for processing voters. Rewarding experience in addition to pay.

Cons

Long hours, workload is very uneven throughout the day.

Pros

The pay is decent, but you have to know someone.

Cons

Cliques. You have to be part of their game, or their inner circle, to get a job in the Veterans Assistance Commission department.
