Pros
Like many startups the employees are extremely talented, hard working, and genuinely well rounded individuals. Working alongside and for these individuals was the highlight of my time with the company. They also offer great benefits like fully stocked fridges, 401(k), company outings, downtown parking and more.
Cons
Sadly the company lacks strong leadership, transparency, and communication. With all the perks it can be hard to see the downfalls of this company. However, many poor decisions have led to where the company stands today. An inappropriate hiring decision that wasn't made public until the CEO's hand was forced was a revealing moment for myself and others. The lack of communication across teams, from upper management to middle management and even between employees is beginning to erode the company. Although this company doesn't suffer from outright bias it is plagued with unconscious bias and the company struggles to respect women and have internal growth plans for women. Almost all raises were given to men in the last 2 quarters and the feedback and conversations towards a lot of the women were about their soft skillsets and not their actual work. Culture starts at the top and the CEO has had many issues with how he views, speaks of and treats women within the company. If you are looking to grow and have strong mentorship, this company will not do you justice. Working for a startup can be fun until the money runs dry and the curtain is pulled back. Save yourself the stress and time and look elsewhere for a startup job in Austin, Texas.
