I worked at DCA Design full-time

    Pros

There are some genuinely clever people working at DCA, and the majority of staff are likeable, open and friendly. Half-day Friday's are great for work/life balance. DCA are rightly well-regarded for clever, dependable engineering-based solutions.

    Cons

A large-ish consultancy with a small-minded and risk-averse attitude, particularly to progress and change (the opposite of design in other words). Like Warwick itself, DCA seems stuck in the 1990's in an insular and slightly arrogant vacuum. There is sometimes a whiff of 'Stepford Wives' there, an atmosphere of 'going through the motions' with a forced smile. In fact if you are looking for a creative design agency then...

I have been working at DCA Design for less than a year

    Pros

DCA have refurbished offices which makes going into work every morning easy. The management seem to understand the needs of the individuals and aren't afraid to engage with everyone. The mixture of a young and mature workforce makes the working place fun. The varying design projects keeps the buzz going around the workplace.

    Cons

Free on site parking isn't available which means it's a good excuse to get some exercise to the many car parks around Warwick.

    Advice to Management

Try and keep hold of the young work force and keep giving them the good advice and mentoring which you are already doing.

"Friendly, talented staff make DCA a good platform to start your career, but it's rigid mentality is often detrimental."

I worked at DCA Design full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

+ A number of talented designers in which to learn from as a junior designer. + The large size & reputation of the agency is a good platform in which to advance your career beyond DCA. + Good facilities and equipment, such as fully equipped workshop with numerous types of 3D printers, Wacom Cintiqs for all the designers, etc. + Opportunities to visit inspirational design fairs across the globe. + Fairly...

    Cons

    - Often long spells of uninteresting project work, particularly in the area of FMCG. - A large percentage of projects are for giant corporations which seldom come to market. - There isn't much to do in the Warwick / Leamington Spa area. Living in Birmingham is a possibility but requires a long commute. - Staff are often frustrated at having very little influence over company decisions and direction, as much of...
