Pros

People at the office are pretty easygoing and nice to work with; not a lot of big egos or climbers. Just good people trying to get good work out. A solid number of the projects are quite nice and there is a good level of technical expertise, along with opportunities to get involved with different phases of design and project execution. Tasks and responsibilities aren’t siloed like at some other offices. There are happy hours and whiskey and a keg in the kitchen. Mondays and Fridays are WFH.

Cons

Nothing that isn’t endemic to the profession as a whole. Low-to-middling pay. Some poor management at a lot of junctures. Many late nights around deadlines that can lead to burnout and exhaustion. Weird policy requiring a months’ notice for taking any PTO, and no remote work allowed at all outside of the regular Monday and Friday. Some of the managers feel a little set in their ways. Feels like the office needs to exploit every employee to a degree to remain solvent. But of course, this can be said about literally any architecture office. Especially in the “big apple.”

Pros

I’ve been at DXA for just under a year and have had a great experience. I’ve gotten experience in many roles and in different project phases in a short amount of time. The company takes on a big variety of project types in different scales which keeps the work exciting. There’s a lot social opportunities to get to know your coworkers too!

Cons

As a smaller office, many people have to wear a lot of hats. However if you can manage your time well, you can really thrive.

Pros

The location of the studio is convenient and easy to access.

Cons

Employees aren't trained at all, but are immediately expected to be able to handle complex tasks without any guidance and work at a high level. Work-life balance is also pretty rough; workloads are brutal and hours are long, with barely any breaks.
