    I worked at Edinburgh Napier University full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Buildings and offices are well laid out, equipment is of good quality and up to spec, some venues have nice gardens and grounds. The academic arm is doing the best it can possibly do and provides good quality service to students. Majority of ground workers are extremely pleasant and very good to work with.

    Cons

    Poor hiring decisions and senior management level over a number of years. Internal promotion and hiring based on who they are and not ability to the job. Career path in IT not in line with the rest of the sector, cannot progress without giving up what you love doing. Female applicants for IT positions are being dropped despite great talent being displayed in practical test at interview in favor of people that perform...

    Advice to Management

    Hire externally from senior management positions. Flatten management structure. Learn lessons from feedback as opposed to imposing staff engagement processes on staff as punishment for negative feedback.
