Pros

lots of hours, the pay is great for people who do not have degrees from college or university, you can meet celebrities and listen to concerts for free

Cons

shifts can get long (16+ hours) and minimal supervision can lead to you being in a situation without back up, have to work most of the shift through one break

Pros

So, you're a student looking for flexible hours and a decent salary? Do you have a bit of a back bone and a strong work ethic? Give security work a chance. Despite what you think, you don't need to be an animal like me to work security. I've been with Fortas since they started, and before that I was with a different security company called Maximum. I have remained with Fortas for 3 simple reasons flexible hours, good pay (as far as a student job goes), and most importantly the people. I know that it sounds cliché to say, but the core Fortas guys really make standing for 9 hours worth it. I have built many strong bonds and connections with all kinds of people. It's a great way to network, and you get to do really cool things...sometimes and that's cool!

Cons

Don't expect it to be easy. This is work and you have to have commitment and stick ability. If you flake out of things all the time than this job probably isn't for you. The hours are long and sometimes you don't get a break all day. You might cook in the sun searching bags or be stuck watching a fence line. You won't always get the spot that you ask for, but the pay and friends you make are worth the agony. Prove yourself and you will gain respect and a little more wiggle room with the supervisors.

Pros

Pays well 16.5-17$/hr. You can make as much as someone working minimum full time all summer by just working 10 shifts at fortas. Thats because theyre long shifts.

Cons

Long shifts are rediculously boring/painful to wait through when you do practically nothing for 16hrs straight. Even when you have things to do it can get so repetitive and dull. They dont give paid half hour breaks for every 5 hours. Which, by law for security guards in quebec, they have to. You usually get 15mins for a break whether you work 8 hrs or 16hrs.
