Pros

The various FRG brands are leaders in the niche IT recruitment markets they operate in so whichever team you're in you have access to the huge candidate database and ready-made clients. The company's brand, advertising spend and big presence at tech conferences helps massively when building your market.

The offices in Newcastle are great. They moved into the new office in Summer 17 and they are huge, have big breakout areas, kitchens, free fruit and they're really central. They've just taken another two floors so there's now around 300 people in the Newcastle office.

The company puts on free sports activities on Monday and Wednesday evenings (football, netball, yoga, running club, boxing etc).

FRG has a very defined culture; it's a sales environment where everyone is expected to work hard and contribute. There's lots of targets and this certainly isn't for everyone, but if you're ambitious and want to progress your sales / recruitment career quickly, I don't believe there's anywhere like it in Newcastle. Consultants who hit their targets progress to Senior Consultant within 12-18 months, and you can be in a leadership position within three years. 99% of the management team started as trainees and have progressed through the ranks by working hard and hitting their targets.

There's loads of incentives so if you hit your targets you're rewarded really well. There's individual rewards as well as team and office incentives. Everyone is invited to the monthly First Thursday event, and the top 20 consultants every month are invited to Lunch Club where you enjoy fine dining on a Friday afternoon at one of the cities best restaurants.

In 2017 FRG took on 15 Placement Students from local universities. They've been a great addition to the Newcastle office and the programme is being repeated in 2018/19.

The social side is great. Lots of people at FRG have met really good friends here and the team culture is really strong.

The training is excellent. They have an in-house training team and every week there's training on recruitment process, the CRM system, your tech product, business development & sales etc.

Overall, FRG is a great company to work for with an excellent culture where everyone has the same opportunity to be successful, progress their career and earn a strong salary.

Cons

In recruitment you get out what you put in. At FRG if you give 100% you will get loads back. If you're not looking to join a fast-growing company with high expectations then this isn't the place for you.

I have been working at Frank Recruitment Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Uncapped and no threshold commission scheme: great for anyone who is highly motivated by success and money.
    - Career progression: targets are set in place for this (raise & tittle change)
    - New HR team: Now have a better work/life balance in place than when I first started. On Wednesdays it's ok to leave at close of business hour, more perks and fitness program.
    - Subject to team / personal performance micromanagement could be limited. If your performance is high then management tends to let you work the to your standards. This means exceeding your target.
    - Market knowledge, really experienced recruiters, huge name in the market.
    - Motivate people to transfer between offices globally
    - If you are a passionate and motivated person you will find that the hours go by very quickly! This goes to show that the work is exciting.
    - Learning potential is high

Nigel Frank really cares for delivering good service to both clients and candidates. Great company to work for if you are a self motivated person that wants to earn a lot of money.

Team is fun to go out drinking with. (every Thursday and Friday)

    Cons

    - Work/life balance (if you have a family and/or have lots of social commitments you might find it hard to balance this with the office hours) Expect to work between a minimum of 11h to 13h a day.
    - Recognition is based on achievement (only top performing consultants will be spoken off or to..)
    - 70% of the employers in London are tired and/or stressed about their next deal
    - Micromanagement (pro or con as you see it)
    - Feels as if you haven't left school. Extremely punctual about lunch time and breaks are too short only at at exact times during the day. This makes little sense to me as lots is expected from us re extra hours put in..

be prepared to step into a high pressured environment where every minute is accounted for.

    Advice to Management

Happy to see that the consultants are being listened to and changes are being made on a HR level. Managing consultants have lots of experience but little time to lead.

I advice to promote recruitment to senior cons quicker, this based on performance but more importantly on capacity to assist managing consultants. This will motivate the Seniors to help others and create more time for the managers.

It used to be a very productive environment where it seems everyone is tired now. Hopefully the summer will give everyone that extra energy again.

Incentives on all levels and not only on top billing level. I've heard it's very demotivating to watch the top billing consultants walk away with prices and travel.

I have been working at Frank Recruitment Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Almost none, except for being introduced to a lot of fun colleagues

    Cons

Where to begin, first of all.. everybody who works here wants to leave. There is a 3 weeks 'bootcamp', where you learn to be a 'recruiter'. But after that it is pretty much you on your own. You are forced to sit there 12h a day, they say it is not mandatory but it is definitely mandatory because if you don't do this you are out. You get minimum pay, and it is difficult to survive on this in London. After around 6 months you will understand the job, and you will start to make deals but this also means that the management will push you to hit the targets. Management are not trained managers, the management are recruiters who hit the targets for x amount of yeara and are made managers. Which result in major mismanagement (screaming on the work floor), and managers who only think about themselves and their bank account instead of their team. I saw people do awful things to each other (literally screw each other over) just to get a few extra bucks. Furthermore, if you don't reach your targets you will get fired and you will be out on the same day that you get fired (sometimes without warning). This leads to a lot of stress for employees who did not manage to get their targets that month. There is a constant flow of new people, because around 70% of all the people quit after the first few months. Don't apply here, apply at another agency (because they will be better, and they will pay you more, because the bonus structure is pretty low to).

    Advice to Management

improve your management, hire managers not recruiters who only give about money. I know recruitment is about long hours, but think about the healthiness of your employees. And most of all, do what you promise.
