Pros

Great local staff. Nice to interact with the program participants.

Cons

No sense of direction from the senior management. Ill-informed decision-making, paying no attention to the opinions of the staff who work closely with the programs. A shambles of an organization that markets itself as an NGO, when in fact, it just takes money from well-intentioned students from western countries.

Pros

here are many remarkable aspects of this organization. The team is exceptionally supportive and welcoming, and they genuinely focus on each individual’s personal and professional goals upon entering the programme. The induction process is relatively comprehensive and well structured, offering a wide range of engaging information, particularly valuable for those who may not have previously travelled abroad or who are preparing to live and work in a country quite different from their own. In my role as a mentor for the groups who came to the country to work in local schools and deliver educational content, the work was demanding and the days were often long. However, I always felt very well supported and thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience. Working with a smaller organization in the nonprofit sector is a great advantage, as it allows you to feel that your ideas and opinions are genuinely heard and valued. The training provided was thorough and effectively equipped us for the role, encouraging us to develop positive mindsets and reframe challenges into opportunities, which is a valuable life skill that I continue to use.

Cons

he pay is relatively modest, though this is to be expected within the nonprofit sector. It is also important to note that accommodation was provided free of charge for the entire duration of the placement, along with meals during periods when groups from the UK and Australia were in country to support the programmes. There appears to be limited opportunities for career progression within the organization, aside from undertaking the same role in another country, which is an excellent cultural and professional opportunity, there are fewer pathways for assuming greater responsibility for those seeking long term development within the sector.

Pros

Great local team and a rewarding experience.

Cons

Projects are subject to the wants of donors and schools, reducing their impact on the local community.
