Pros

The weekend leads are amazing (and need a lot more recognition). The coworkers are great and have your back! The engineers are also very friendly and very helpful if you have any questions. The work is good (when machines aren't broken) and keeps you busy. There are some processes where you're by yourself all shift so it's a great time to listen to audiobooks and podcasts! The four day "weekend" is nice, and you only work 36 hours but get paid for 40. I heard the benefits are good, but as a contractor I wouldn't know. Being a new company, they're working on branding and creating merch so free stuff! The company is still new and growing, so there's potential for improvement. I'm really hoping the company will listen to their employees before they lose their workforce.

Cons

You'll only get recognition and fun stuff (like food trucks, mini golf, parties) if you're on the week day shift. There's no clear communication for temp employees regarding holidays. I asked multiple times and received 3 different answers... Working on weekends, you're supposed to get 4 hours paid, but if you come in early or leave late they take that time from you're free hours. Which means if you want to come in an extra day for training or more hours, you'll lose the hours before you even have a chance at overtime. So in trying to get extra training, they'd rather pay weekday employees extra overtime (since they work four 12 hours shifts) to come in on the weekend, rather than providing overtime for weekend workers who want to come in on other days... The schedule for the first week is 9-5 (no matter what shift, week, weekend, day or night) which is so different from their production work schedule it's a little off putting. If the machines are down, then there's no training available and can become difficult once you move to your shift and others also aren't trained for the same reason. The pay is mockingly low for the type of work and location (starting at $22), one can easily find easier work for the same or even more pay. The night shift difference isn't that much at only $1.50 (so $23.50 an hour). To add insult to injury, management is constantly bragging about multi million dollar grants and contracts. It's a developing chemical plant, so they're still working on the ingredients and processes. It's a learning curve, but in doing so has created new lethal byproduct since I've been here (not what I signed up for). They also don't seem interested in the science method of only changing one thing at a time because they'd rather ramp up production to the max until it breaks another machine. Since I've started there's always at least one machine broken (if not most of them) so plenty of free time. However, during the free time there been issues with keeping/looking busy as management gets frustrated if we're not doing anything but won't provide projects or tasks...and then will continue doing this the whole shift. If you're hired as an operator, you'll stay one because the turn over rate is ridiculous. As a temp you can't really go through management for other jobs and can only apply online. When I tried to reach out to HR about another opportunity (not about me being an operator) they followed up with the staffing agency instead... Also HR isn't on site which has made incredibly frustrating for many employees. Communication is really rough here. Between the shifts and overall with what's going on. The company isn't nonbinary friendly. Their locker rooms are gendered and you'll be placed in whichever one you "look like" you belong in.

Pros

As a Senior Process Engineer in a fast-paced, growing tech startup specializing in battery materials, the role focused on optimizing and troubleshooting production processes, as well as implementing key process improvements. This was a fun and entertaining role with many opportunities to implement changes and make observable differences.

Cons

While the position offers an opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and shape the company’s production capabilities, the leadership dynamics present significant challenges. Clear direction from leadership is often lacking, with decisions being made on an ad-hoc basis. Unrealistic expectations are set without consideration for resource limitations, and managers often struggle to balance their scientific expertise with the demands of effective team leadership. This results in a disjointed work environment where priorities can shift rapidly, and the support needed for engineering teams to succeed is inconsistent.
