Pros

I reiterate everything that has been said in previous reviews. This company understands its values and truly lives them every day, the first and foremost being "People First". Everyone has a voice and ideas are heard. Management works side by side with their team and are wonderful leaders. Most of all, the people here are just really kind, brilliant and interesting. They are the type of folks you don't mind seeing and talking to every day and (as sometimes is the case) traveling around the country with. Other perks to mention: Very flexible hours and work from home policy Once a week catered lunch Profit sharing Encouragement of professional growth Great office space in a historic Chicago building

Cons

This is not necessarily a con for everyone, but be aware that the company is very small and encourages a lot of camaraderie and socializing. Given there are only 30 or so employees you will get to know everyone pretty immediately and it is nearly impossible to stay anonymous or private. While social activities certainly are not forced, it's fairly conspicuous if you were one to always skip a company lunch, happy hour, etc. This is in no way an issue for me, but if you're the type who would rather never socialize with your co-workers, this might not be the place for you.

Pros

Leadership that actually cares about you as a person, management that puts trust in and gives autonomy to individual contributors, values driven organization that won't work with clients that do not align to our values, great people who you actually enjoy working with every day.

Cons

Small company so lacks some perks offered by larger firms, however your quality of life working here makes up for that.

Pros

I've been at Highland for almost two years now and I can genuinely say that I feel good about the work I do every day and think that Highland is poised for success in the years ahead. The company values can be seen in every decision made; the leadership team thinks not just about revenue but about the impact a decision will have on employees and our clients. Highland has evolved quite a bit in the past few years and is becoming less of a "dev shop" and more of a strategic consulting firm. This has meant we've been able to do some exciting and diverse work. It also means that our team is constantly evolving and learning new things. There is a ton of opportunity to expand your professional skill-set and work on a variety of projects here. Highland also truly supports work/life balance as well as bringing your "whole self" to work. There is a commitment to D&I and you can tell that the people who work here enjoy what they do and who they work with. There is absolutely no toxicity in the workplace and everyone's thoughts/feelings are respected. I can't say enough good things about the leadership team and their commitment to building a sustainable firm that has a positive impact on our community and the people we serve. Also, Highland recently upgraded our health insurance benefits and they're some of the best you can get.

Cons

It's is a small company and not looking to grow rapidly so if you're looking for a place to "climb the ladder" quickly, Highland might not be for you. Not sure that's a con- but something to note. Although there is profit sharing, there is no 401K match.
