Seasonal work; frequently short staffed

Neat being on the water, on a large boat, crossing Lake Michigan. They seem to have a hard time finding people to work on the boat. I wonder why?

Long days, hard work, with pay just above minimum wage. Some Officers have little care for crew, and crew have little recourse. Short season and then you have to find other employment to cover off season. Sometimes it seems like they shouldn't sail because of rough weather. Its no fun cleaning up passenger's vomit. Career advancement is non existent. No one talks about water based career advancement.
