I worked at Man Group full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good atmosphere, mostly friendly co-operative teams, interesting projects, feeling that the company cares about its staff, e.g. flexible benefits, decent bonuses, free lunches. Starting to accept flexible working/tele-working.

Cons

Taken on more staff than it should have over the last few years, so lost some of the enjoyable "hedge fund" feel, and now having to make severe cut-backs.

Advice to Management

Don't get rid of all the staff that made the company a success in the first place, and try to keep the hedge fund culture rather than aiming to be an investment bank!

    Pros

    Free food ;-)
Huge bonuses (some of the biggest in the City of London)
    Good salary and benefits
Ability to invest directly into main funds (usually it requires around £100,000 minimum to do so
    Mainly promotions from within
World leader in the field and very fast-paced

    Cons

Some under-resourcing in key areas with large bias in others that are not warranted
    Can be incredible pressured
    Has become political
Elements of blame culture starting to emerge

    Advice to Management

Faster career growth opportunities should be given to top talent.

    Pros

A good firm with decent people - very sales driven and workers given freedom to work independently and contribute to the business. Senior management very approachable.

    Cons

Likes to promote within - can be good but has led to underqualified people in certain positions. Historically, a lack of investment in people (and systems).

    Advice to Management

Employees like to see/talk to/give input into business - never underestimate the power of walking around and chattting to employees.
