I worked at Marshall Wace North America

    Pros

The culture is great-- really entrepreneurial with hardworking and bright staff. The office is beautiful too. With regard to the intern program I think they've done a wonderful job granting interns access to senior members of the firm. Honestly the whole office was quite welcoming to interns and wanted to make themselves available for questions, coffee chats, etc. A lot will be expected of you at the firm, but you will...

    Cons

The flat hierarchy of the firm may be a deterrent for some looking for a lot of upward growth within a company, although that does not really impact interns or those joining at entry level. Some may not like the relatively early start time and limited WFO flexibility.

    Advice to Management

No advice to management really. The company has been hanging a lot over recent years due to headcount expansion and office relocation. The culture that Paul Marshall and Ian Wace have created is really unique and valuable to the firm, so make sure that's kept in tact as you continue to evolve. And perhaps create some opportunity for promotion or career growth within certain Middle/Back office roles.

I have been working at Marshall Wace North America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

MW is a technology driven company, from the roots of quantitative trading has grown an organisation that is inherently data driven and technological at heart. Enormous leeway is given to technologists to choose the appropriate tools and systems to solve business problems rather than hidebound adherence to specific technologies Bureaucracy is kept to a minimum The people at MW, across business and technology are some...

    Cons

Very rigid on starting times, 8 am on the dot daily High pressure environment, only suited to someone with a high tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to deal with conflicting requirements Low on process - the other edge of the lack of bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Flexi time / work from home options should be expanded

I worked at Marshall Wace North America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The office is beautiful and the benefits are some of the best i've ever had. If you work hard you are rewarded well & the IT systems/support is second to none

    Cons

Senior management... they're highly strung, condescending, rude and they will treat you like you're something they stepped in.

    Advice to Management

None. They won't change as they make money & think that's all that matters.
