Pros

• Work life balance. • Compensation is high for industry and location.

Cons

• Salaries, promotions, raises and bonuses seemed arbitrary. Little transparency and inconsistent application of “policies” in these areas. (I.e. policies were used as reason to deny some employees promotions/raises, while other employees were not subject to these polices.) • Lack of commitment to diversity and inclusion (especially at the top). • Senior leadership exhibits little vision, follow- through, transparency or EQ. • The company recently laid off the entire editorial department and has been restructuring, leading many others to leave. • Some departments and individuals can be possessive of projects, as their top priority is furthering their own career or status in the company. • Those at the top tend to ignore or push out employees who point out areas needing improvement, instead of addressing concerns.

Pros

The podcast boom is happening and Megaphone is a clear leader. Attention is paid to culture and there is definitely opportunity to grow and move up as the company evolves. Worth noting, for me, 50-100 person companies has been my sweet spot. Major balance for a startup that’s writing a ton of business. Without the financial concerns of a VC-funded media company, team can focus on building the best product/company for the long haul. Amazing networking opportunities because people in the industry know us and want to connect at industry events, and “working in podcasts” gets a rise out of people you meet outside the business too.

Cons

Some other reviews seem to reflect the reality that the focus has shifted over the past year (to focus on podcast tech, and we’re objectively at the cutting edge). I can totally understand how that’d be frustrating for people on the other side of that pivot. It’s now an ad tech business (that happens to be in podcasts), so on the ad side (can’t speak to dev), people who show up looking to contribute and get noticed will get the most out of the experience.
