- Learn lots of transferrable skills, fast
- Built for remote working
- Most people mean well
Cons
Beware of recent, highly positive reviews. The actual product is excellent, but the working conditions are far from it.
There is little to no way to escape Customer Operations once you've joined, and that's exactly what the majority want to do after 3 - 6 months.
In Customer Operations, performance reviews are every six months - at which point you're expected to jump through dozens of hoops and prepare endless documents in order to receive a small bump in salary. Your salary does not increase with inflation, and instead of meaningful salary increases, small and thoughtful gifts are sent out. Fine if money isn't a motivator for you.
The longer you are in COps, the more specialised your role becomes. There are individuals handling highly complex and risky processes due to their tenure who are paid well below market rate, because there's no career progression. If you stay there long enough, burnout is almost guaranteed. Leadership have even said there's a point at which you outgrow your role as a COp, it's more like an expiry date by which point you will burn yourself out.
Scheduling is a constant uphill battle for the under- supported WFM team itself and the surrounding middle management trying to influence them.
Most people are working very late and that's just considered normal. Managers will usually not speak to their team to check if everything's okay, it's just not spoken about. People will usually just change their Slack status to offline and keep working, because everyone's consistently burning themselves out to get stuff done. Many Squad Captains do go the extra mile for their team, but some are just awful.
Really not worth it, consider other options.
