I have been working at North Carolina State University part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Collaborative and supportive graduate student environment.
Lots of opportunities to gain teaching experience after preliminary semester of lecture assistantship or recitation leadership.
Teach only 1 class per semester.
    Good health insurance.
NC State grad students typically have good job prospects because of experience.
The department is actively recruiting stellar young professors as several faculty are in the process of retiring.
1+ REG opportunities with travel funding available for early career graduate students.
    Primary Instructors have full responsibilities.

    Cons

The department's budget, like most state schools, it at the mercy of the state budget.
The teaching observation and advising system is not well-enforced and faculty often show up only once in a semester and rarely check-in with TA instructors.
Very few courses are actually "coordinated" by the assigned faculty member.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend that the department implement some kind of regular test-writing collaboration among instructors to better standardize the lower level courses.
