I worked at Pret A Manger full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - unlimited free hot drinks on the shift - free food allowance

    Cons

    - hard to get a promotion. They will train you, say to be barista, then will make you do barista shifts for 3-6 months while paying you a salary of a team member. I.e., underpaying you by ~£1/hour. While promising you that they will send you to the training, approve your training, etc., next week, next next week. -had a chance to work in 5 different shops - most managers/assistant managers don't care. Will put you... on terrible hours if don't agree with them on every single thing. And they sit in the office most of the time. - a lot of friends/relatives getting hired by said managers. So there's hierarchies within the shop. No chance of promotion, if a friend of the assistant manager wants one too, even if you have more experience and worked for much longer. - if a shop has a polish manager, don't get surprised if most of the staff are polish or if only polish people get promotions etc.
