I worked at Pret A Manger part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Staff is entitled to 50% discount, paid break, job is relatively easy once you are trained, you are meeting people from all around the word and it is possible to make really strong friendships. Food is really nice and you are entitled to certain amount of products for free. Most of people working there are really nice and so is majority of the customers. Depending on the shop you have, sometimes it can be really fun. You will also learn how to work as a part of team.

Cons

Long hours, standing on your feet whole day can get exhausting, job gets boring and repetitive after a while. This company pays better than most other coffee and sandwich chains, but it expects you to do a lot in return. You are supposed to be happy and smile at all times. The standards of cleanliness, speed, customer service are extremely high (which is fine, but sometimes they do not have enough people to cover all the work and you will have to work really hard). Depending on the shop, sometimes it might be quite slow to progress.

Advice to Management

Bring more fun and games into a company, ease up a little bit. Do not make anything about money. One of the rules of Pret behaviour is not to only do work for money, so please do not get obsessed with all the standards and bonuses. High standards are good, but ensure that you have enough people to cover the work, otherwise you will end up with over-stressed employees and managers. More vegetarian options would be nice and many customers also ask about Chai Latte (which your competitors do offer); it would be great to consider offering this coffee.
