Pros
The people doing the actual work on the ground at RAINN are some of the most amazing, dedicated, and hard-working people I've ever had the honor of working with. The way they are willing to go above and beyond for survivors is a true testament to the good in the world.
Cons
The leadership at this organization is straight out harmful. RAINN's mission is "to carry out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice," but that mission seems to end at the front doors of the organization. There are many survivors, myself included, who choose to work at RAINN because they want to create a positive outcome from their trauma. Instead they find themselves constantly dismissed and devalued. During the fallout of the 2022 Business Insider article - "Insiders say RAINN, the nation's foremost organization for victims of sexual assault, is in crisis over allegations of racism and sexism" - as employees tried to deal with either having been personally victimized by leadership or with learning that their coworkers had been going through this hardship, the message from leadership was that if we needed to take a step back, we'd be the ones failing survivors - ignoring the fact that so many of us also fell into that category. I think the services that RAINN offers are vital, but I don't believe that the price for them can be the mental health and the dignity of the people doing the actual work.
