    Pros

    The autonomy to bring your own innovation to doing a better job against the backdrop of the expectation that you will deliver continual improvements.

    Cons

    Sometimes a feeling of inferiority in working for one of the non civil aerospace business units.

    Advice to Management

    Appreciate that the civil aerospace sector is hugely dominant in terms of size, but please don't forget that more often than not it is the cash generated by the other sectors that enables the civil aero business to operate, so all are vital to a successful company and should therefore be regarded as such.

    I worked at Rolls-Royce full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    If you get a good manager then you will have a good time working at RR, plenty of good managers but also some bad enough to lose their entire team (either physically or respect wise) within weeks of starting
    - Possible to progress
    - Some great people
    - Great products

    Cons

    Former decisions haunting the company;
    - Progression at staff levels requires a lot of work and it isn't possible to get a pay rise when you interview and accept a promotion. If you progress quickly in terms of positions it can be hard to keep up in terms of pay scale.
    - HR mostly outsourced/off-shored (inflexible and detached)
    - Major excel abuse/over reliance
    - IT outsourced, very limited engineering/programming in house. IT staff are virtually all project management managing implementation of off the shelf software (over budget and behind plan)

    Advice to Management

    Embrace and enable programming in all areas of the business create teams to develop for each function to break the excel addiction and step out of the past, make HR more human and give people the grade of jobs they interview and are selected for (leave boarding in place for progression within a role)
