    toxic, petty management

    Pros

Great health insurance for minimal cost. State-of-the-art technology conducive to efficiency in workflow. Work computers at every patient bedside. Work computers and chairs outside every other patient room. Adequate staffing most of the time, nursing assistants to do most of the basic patient care so RNs can focus on licensed tasks and clinical issues. EHR is streamlined and easy to use. Required documentation is not excessive. Discount in gift shop and cafes. RNs are paid a differential for having a degree (BSN, MSN). Physicians and interdisciplinary staff are for the most part very friendly and collegial. COVID patients are sequestered in designated units rather than distributed all around the hospital units. Parking is covered and convenient. Pay rate and benefits are definitely competitive.

    Cons

Top heavy management. Toxic 'leadership' teams who favor and reward pet employees and target and abuse those for whom they have a personal distaste. Forget inclusion if you don't share their politics, worldview, or lifestyle, which they don't mind hypocritically displaying or allowing from others if it matches theirs, rather than holding everyone to the same standard of keeping it out of the workplace, understanding that diversity also applies to political and social views. Petty and vindictive bosses who are not kept in check. Backstabbing of the disfavored is encouraged and even rewarded. Managers are unaccountable for their own unethical and non-exemplary behaviors. Credit is taken by others for your hard work. Too many young, inexperienced staff seem to tire of doing the real work of patient care less than five years into their careers and want to be bosses in an organization that already doesn't have enough committed primary care nurses at the bedside. Promotions based on education alone rather than actual proven, measurable contributions and noteworthy performance. Suspect that some outside-the-inner-circle older nurses who more than earn their higher pay rates and save the organization money with their competence, are being targeted for managing out to shortsightedly 'cut costs'.
