Pros

I love startups, especially good causes. This is both.

Cons

Because I love startups I signed on for a *substantially* lower rate than I usually contract for. I also donated countless hours because I wanted to see the company succeed. I was "on call" all hours of the day, which the employer took advantage of - for crises that generally followed the pattern of "This button's color is wrong. Do you listen to anything I say?" In the 9 months I worked there, I got one paycheck on time. The other 8 paychecks were invariably 3-7 days late. The employer was often overtly condescending, passive-aggressive, and emotionally volatile. When I decided I'd had enough, I submitted a polite and professional two week's notice. He argued and begged me to stay on until he could find a replacement. Several weeks later he still hadn't interviewed anyone, and was still calling me at all hours for support. Eventually he hired someone and I provided training. He never sent my last paycheck, and I didn't receive my tax information until over a month past the federal deadline.

First, it is important to note that this individual was working as a contractor in 2013. While starting a company is always a challenge, we have and will always pay our bills. In the beginning we likely did send some payments a few days late; but as we have matured, we have been able to improve our process and currently outsource our payroll so we can focus on building great software. As a company, we strive to provide financial security for our employees and their families with a healthy work-life balance while being part of a great, innovative team. We strive to promote a culture of continuous improvement and excellence, but always in a respectful and collegial manner. We make every reasonable effort to help each employee contribute and thrive in this environment. We wish this individual well.

Pros

Suture is a stable company with reliable leadership. Leadership cares enough about the product to provide direction, but doesn't micromanage its' talent. From day one you will have a say in the growth and direction of the company and your opinion will be heard from code quality to architecture. If you want to build solutions to interesting problems, Suture is a great place to land.

Cons

Requires one to assess a need, and address it. If you're looking for somewhere to coast through jira tickets, this may not be the right spot.
