I have been working at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs full-time

    Pros

The Council's mission of promoting global engagement makes it feel good to work there. It's full of capable, passionate people doing interesting things, and the networking opportunities through events are hard to beat.

    Cons

As a nonprofit, it doesn't pay junior staff well. There's probably some planned turnover. That's understandable. Sometimes the passion of the staff can lead to tension because everyone wants everything to be as good as possible, but they have competing visions.

    Advice to Management

Treat the junior staff with a little more respect--the line workers could use the support and encouragement. Other than that, keep being ambitious.

I worked at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

One of the only international affairs organizations in Chicago

    Cons

Poor leadership demonstrated by senior management, especially the chief executive and chief operating officer, has led to a hollowing out of the organization. The organization lacks strategic vision and values.
