Valuable opportunities in some field programs; but World Office is an unpleasant place to be. - Program Director The Nature Conservancy Employee Review

Pros

Relatively good salaries and benefits for the nonprofit sector. Good cause and generally efficiently run organization.

Cons

There is great disparity between upper management and "worker bee" salaries. There is a pattern of lay-offs every few years. Despite noble talk about diversity, upper management doesn't really walk the talk. White, Ivy-league males dominate upper management, who are often not held to organizational policies about hiring, posting positions and such--and HR ignores it.

Pros

Mission is awesome. Great work-life balance.

Cons

Prioritizes comfort over continuous improvement. Very bureaucratic and slow. Incredibly sensitive culture to a point of extremity--don't think you're in a safe space or that you can be open with any communication. Someone will be offended by your honesty and the backlash is yours to manage. They prefer people to just go with the flow even if it's painful, inefficient, etc.
