I have been working at University of Leicester full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

If you are part of the cabal running the place, things are probably quite good.

    Cons

Where to start? As of February 2021 the University is making huge numbers of redundancies across academic and professional services departments. For example, yet again they are trying to get rid of all pure mathematics academics (there are various petitions online opposing these actions, signed by some very serious academics and others). The planned changes will have huge negative consequences for the University. They seem to want to become an apprentice/vocational skills institution (this is one of the things they say in their various "Shaping for excellence" documents). The accountants are refusing to sign off the accounts - they are worried the University has serious financial problems (the management even talk about this publicly on their Executive Board videos on YouTube). I expect the next 10 years or so to be very difficult for them in terms of finances. Perhaps they won't even last that long. If you are a student, avoid like the plague! If you are an academic looking for a new job, avoid like the plague! If you are still working there, you have my deepest sympathies (unless you are part of that despicable group who have destroyed the University... the senior management).
