I worked at Equal Experts full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you're a pragmatic contractor that loves crafting software then this is a fine organisation to be involved with. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive - I was placed at a client with other EE people and felt valued and respected from day one. EE take care to ensure you're delivering value to clients, not just a bum on a seat, and this really shows. The interview process at EE sets the bar higher than...

    Cons

They paid a bit less than some of the other consultancies engaged with the client but this is a minor grumble since the EE day rate is decent.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up - the network is growing but by keeping your plans and strategy open it

I worked at Equal Experts (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work with *some* talented people. Excellent Day rate. Lovely People team.

    Cons

Lack of project managers with people skills. Lip service to agile and team management (but without the follow through). Fabricating and manipulating sprint results to coddle client. Failure to listen and punishment to those that speak up about poor professional practice.

    Advice to Management

Respect those that work for you. Just because "You wear shoes" doesn't mean you're right all the time.

I’m sorry to read about your negative experiences when working on an engagement with Equal Experts colleagues. I understand you feel you weren’t listened to and your opinion wasn’t respected on the team you were working on. It’s upsetting to read you felt you were being punished for ...

I have been working at Equal Experts for more than 3 years

    Pros

Interesting work which is challenging and rewarding, smart group of people to work with and flexible working culture. I particularly enjoy being able to get on with the work and not being tied up in meetings and other time wasting activities

    Cons

So far nothing to grumble about :-)

    Advice to Management

The culture and respect shown to clients and colleagues is one of EE's USPs. Growing quickly has the risk of diluting the culture. Balancing short term goals with long term ambition should help build a reputation which is unique in this industry.

I worked at Equal Experts for more than a year

    Pros

When you go into a contract with EE, at the client site you never feel alone. The network is so big and influential there is a huge support and drive in the teams to deliver meaningful impact. Their clients are often amazed by the quality and determination of EE teams.

    Cons

There's not much cons in my opinion.

    Advice to Management

To EE management I would say to keep doing what you are doing since is working great. I think EE works perfectly fine using this kind of flat management structure it has, the company it's just scaling by itself.

I worked at Equal Experts (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've really enjoyed moving from previous permanent developer roles to contract roles with Equal Experts. The key difference really is the people - the permanent EE staff and the contractors that they hire are among the most mature, friendly, and knowledgeable people that I have worked with in my tech career. EE provide a supportive network, allowing you to focus on your professional role rather than chasing invoices,...

    Cons

Genuinely can't think of any, really enjoyed my time working via Equal Experts and hoping to return in the future.

I have been working at Equal Experts for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great network of smart, competent and friendly people - Almost no management, no egotistical people - Ability to switch between different projects (if appropriate & available) - Good business model and hiring process - Helpful staff

    Cons

    - For certain customers that are resistant to any change, challenging their values and decisions might be necessary & more useful in terms of the overall company & team performance - Regular feedback from teammates could be useful for improvement

    Advice to Management

    - With this amazing network of people, EE could create great products as well. I'd like to see more contributions from EE to open source world and see their own products. - Encouraging entrepreneurship and people to try their own ideas in the network and something like an internal incubator could be great for EE to build it's own products. - People could be encouraged to develop their own products by sparing certain...

I worked at Equal Experts for more than 5 years

    Pros

I've spent 5 years working at EE and found the people to be some of the best I've ever worked with. It's the classic sort of business where the attitude and culture comes from the top down: the two owners are fantastic, have created a team of excellent staff around them, and built a network of some of the best technical minds in the industry. There are so many social events and parties to attend, and many opportunities...

    Cons

Honestly, I haven't experienced any negatives. I approached EE while working there and asked for help with a personal development project, and they had no hesitation in helping. This is the sort of people they are.

    Advice to Management

The network has grown massively, and this could be a problem, but you've done a fantastic job of managing it. It doesn't feel like it's as big as it is. It's brilliant to have so much "face" time from the senior team members online daily. I know you won't, but don't ever let the culture change.

I worked at Equal Experts (Less than a year)

    Pros

Below the senior management is a good flat org of associates who are keen to do things the right way. Majority of the associates are highly skilled and personable. Not so much for the management tho.

    Cons

The environment has become incredibly political. Moving roles within the organisation is closely controlled by a few, who take the opinions of a select few rather than the wider team. They also play very close to the line on their contracts. Definitely not the organisation they once were.

    Advice to Management

Think about what you want from the organisation. Too many mistakes being made for short term gain. It’s affecting the way consultants view the company and has certainly made me not want to work with the organisation again. And I’d warn others against it too.

Thanks for your feedback - it’s great to hear that you think the “majority of the associates are highly skilled and personable”. Keeping the bar high is massively important to us. For the rest of your comments, I’m sad that you feel this way about Equal Experts, but sometimes we ...

    Pros

    - Life work balance and Flexibility - Very kind and understanding Senior management team - Highly skilled, professional and resourceful company

    Cons

    - Visibility on internal vacancies could be improved - They gain lots of traction and their clients have big expectations. But not all their teams are at full capacity. Regardless of that they manage very well to move forward no matter the challenge.

    Advice to Management

Aim to supply your teams always. Make sure all your dev teams have a business analyst close to them and they have all they need. Improve the visibility of your internal vacancies.

I have been working at Equal Experts (Less than a year)

    Pros

I am just finishing up my first six-month engagement with Equal Experts on a large project in London. I started contracting 20 years ago and I can say that, without a doubt, this has been the most enjoyable and professional group of people I have ever worked with. Not only is everyone on the project knowledgeable, experiences and keen to learn new things, but they are also incredibly nice and great to work with. In addition,...
