      Pros

They treat people as grownups Provide a high degree of autonomy - this is a problem, use your expertise to figure out how and ... lots of experts who will help you figure it out and ... lots of lovely people :)

      Cons

If you like high degrees of structure this is not the place for you If you want an obvious career progression this is not the right place for you

        Pros

Working with really good people = learning & being stretched, not struggling with constituent problems as your colleagues "just get it", and excellent conversations to do the right thing. It is a learning organisation: things are not perfect, but you can talk about it, learn, and make things better. You are given the agency to affect change the way you see fit with the context, skill and experience you bring. Yes, there is rigour and feedback, but this freedom without micro-management allows you to do well. Failing is OK and valued. There is consideration for you as a human rather than as a "resource"; this manifests in conversations about work, your engagement, and the non-engagement activities, which are plentiful and well organised. And... there is a shared understanding that doing the right thing is about humans and machines; it's not just about writing code. Nice.

        Cons

There is a torrent of information flow, which makes sieving and finding the useful stuff for you a meaty weekly task. I know that we are actively making this better. There is a lack of candid feedback culture (at least on the engagements I have been on), which leads to later-than-desired changes in behaviour and having to build a feedback culture with EE colleagues. Everyone is a grown-up, and everything is open... until you get to remuneration negotiation time, and then it gets weird. You are often negotiating with someone who has no context of what you do and the value you bring to the client and EE (this has changed for the better in just the past year). I have heard and understood the reasons for keeping this process opaque, but I would love for the org to go full grown-up, make everyone's rates transparent, and open up the process. I'm sure it will lead to difficult conversations, but I feel those are the best ones.

          Pros

I could spend hours on this. I can be myself. EE people are great to work with, all over the world. It's a really collaborative environment. There's a focus on doing what's right for the customer. There are salary benchmarks not performance review, a generous profit share scheme, and a future employee buy-out.

          Cons

You have to motivate yourself and navigate a consensus culture, due to the flat org structure, but that's much better than a hierarchy

Thank you, especially for your advice

I love working at EE, I feel I can be totally myself. The work is engaging, the people are wonderful, it's a really collaborative environment and they do live their values

            Cons

Driving change can be slow due to a lot of opinion and flat structure however that's far better than having too much hierarchy!

                Pros

                - good level of autonomy, you can work on the things you like to work on - pay is great (good benefits for employees also) - nice people, a large and engaged community of experts- there is always somebody around who will be able to answer any burning questions you have on any topic! -low hierarchy: the Service Leads. CEO and Co-Founder are visible, accessible, low ego and interested to talk -interesting work, varied clients

                Cons

-it's such a flat organisational structure that sometimes people don't want to- or it's not clear who should -step up and take ownership when things go wrong -for employees- things can be a bit disorganised- we don't have a lot of internal things like intranet etc so internal process and resources are learned by osmosis or serendipitous conversations -sometimes a focus on 'building software' over solving the right problems - the quality of consultants (on both technical and consulting skill level) feels like it has dropped a bit as the network has grown -there is more focus on hiring new people rather than rotating existing network of consultants onto work -there's still work to do on gender balance across the organisation

                  Pros

Equal Experts is, as far as my experience goes, a very unique organisation. Many organisations talk about values, but EE really do believe in, and enact their values every day. It is a place where seasoned practitioners come together as equals, in an environment of respect, and do their best work. There are so many opportunities and you have a huge amount of autonomy. There is a large amount of variety, and not just working for different clients on different products and services; Often ‘tours of duty’ become available to be rotated into a specific role for a period of time. You can find a great balance of working from home and working in the office. After many years as a contractor, I didn’t know if I would find an organisation where I’d be happy to be an employee again, but I’m glad to say I have.

                  Cons

If you are looking to work your way up a corporate ladder then EE is not the best place to do that.

                    Pros

Working for EE as a consultant is a really excellent experience. Treated as an equal, and given free reign to self manage and decide for yourself how best to use your skills and time. Trust is a major quality among all the senior members in EE, and everyone is not just given opportunity, but is encouraged to speak and contribute to the big picture.

                    Cons

Such a flat structure and freedom of decision making sometimes makes it difficult to quantify the responsibility an individual has, including yourself. Early on you find yourself wondering if you should be doing X or Y and no one is likely to tell you yes or no. Additionally, not much opportunity for career progression in terms of titles and seniority. (Bundles in terms of experience gained though)

                      Pros

From day 1 of working with Equal Experts (EE), I was impressed by the high level of experience and skill-set across the organisation. I very much felt surrounded by people I could rely on, be supported by and work with as peers in highly effective delivery teams. Plus, on the whole, they are incredibly nice people. EE has been the best organisation I've ever worked with. The high calibre of it's consultants and operations teams is a huge contribution to that, as is the diversity of client work. I'm constantly being challenged and stretched by new clients, new domains, new contexts to dig into and understand. Finally, I massively appreciate EE for the trust and freedom they place in people, be they employees or associates. It empowers people to do the right thing, and do it well.

                      Cons

To further improve the culture at EE, we need to improve how we provide feedback to each other, and improve the level of trust and psychological safety across the organisation. EE are taking steps in this direction, which is good to see, so I'm optimistic this will become a future strength.

                        Pros

Very adult, low blame & trusting environment Flat structure - You truly have the flexibility to make decisions & suggest changes without consulting a hierarchy first Decisions are made on whats best for the client, associates, employees & the business - not driven by profit The company is full of people who are the top of their game within their field, so you never stop learning & progressing Yearly pay reviews where they genuinely look at the outside market & make sure you are being paid in line with that - it is refreshing to not have to negotiate hard for a pay rise

                        Cons

Imposter syndrome is fairly common here due to the expert level of associates & employees - I personally like this as it pushes me to grow, however I can understand why some find it daunting There isn't a huge amount of 'career progression' here with regards to Job Title, due to the flat structure.. but a lot of opportunity to learn & progress personally.

In an interview is it a good practice to draw examples for answering situational questions from the most recent and relevant experience or should I draw examples from other previous experiences as well?
