I have been working at Evidera full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Where do I start? Fantastic pay, friendly and competent coworkers, interesting projects and all the support and training you could possibly hope for. An amazing opportunity, especially right after academia. The whole company and every process and task are very well-structured, and everyone is always on top of their workload. Evidera recruits people highly-capable of multi-tasking and project management, so even though there is a lot to do the office never descends into a stressful environment. The work-life balance is great. It's an incredibly productive atmosphere and an great opportunity to learn as much as you can.

    Cons

Evaluation of performance is becoming more metric and target driven which can be distracting.

I worked at Evidera full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Predominately great people. Opportunity to work on interesting projects.

    Cons

With growth came substantial culture change, which was managed very poorly. Many individuals in management positions have limited management experience/skills. Additionally upper management and thereby by default almost all staff has become more concerned about individual performance metrics (which includes sales/BD - centric targets; even for relatively Junior staff) than conducting quality work. Moral has been spiraling downward for years.

    Evidera Response

    November 20, 2017VP, HR

While I respect this individual's opinion, I would like to share a set of facts which contradict several items stated above. According to our 2017 all employee survey, 97% of employees are proud of the external reputation of the company and it's leaders and have an enjoyable working relationship with their colleagues. Evidera's 2017 attrition rate is the lowest in its history and substantially lower than other like consulting companies. At mid-year almost 10% of the staff received promotions as evidence that we focus on quality science and recognize outstanding performance. Our Research Leadership Council has just named 3 individuals recipients of their annual Scientific Excellence Award. Evidera continues its history of prolific publishing in the most prestigious scientific publications and maintains an active presence in industry leading conferences and organizations world-wide. These are facts that the company is very proud of.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Evidera full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting projects with a lot of variety, generally excellent scientific staff, high quality standards for our work, typically a positive and productive work environment, occasional working from home is allowed (and encouraged when weather is bad).

    Cons

Excessive focus on so-called "objective performance metrics". For mid-level staff and up, too many different (and sometimes conflicting) metrics, targets, etc. Some staff worry about these in ways that can threaten overall efficiency, productivity, and quality in project execution.

I have been working at Evidera

    Pros

    Interesting projects, flexible work arrangements

    Cons

This company has changed hands numerous times in recent years, which has contributed to the instability and shortcomings of current management. There have been many concerns voiced by employees about the company’s lack of transparency, especially regarding layoffs (which have occurred annually for the last 3 years) and reorganization decisions. While the current company goes by the name of Evidera, it was formerly part of United BioSource Corporation and operated as UBC Health Care Analytics (if you do a search for this name, you’ll find several negative reviews). Despite layoffs, Evidera has experienced a lot of recent growth, which has been chaotic and inadequately managed. Like most consulting companies, there is a heavy emphasis on generating sales and revenue without ensuring the necessary resources to meet client and project demands. Given the target utilization rates noted in the previous review and time and budget constraints, the work can be challenging and overwhelming at times. Because of the tendency to operate in silos, there is little collaboration across departments and the workload is unevenly distributed and not managed well. Even within departments, teamwork and collaboration (and even simple things like communication) can be very hit-or-miss, which is perhaps partially a reflection of poor leadership and weak sense of community in the company. There is an unfortunate culture of favoritism toward entrenched insiders that is too often apparent, fosters discontent, and undermines the whole company. Management lacks a coherent long-term strategy and vision to guide Evidera into the future, and as mentioned in the other review, the company has taken a turn for the worse and is on the decline. Turnover is concerning, and a number of good employees have left the company. The compensation has not kept up with industry standards, and better opportunities can be found elsewhere.

    Evidera Response

    May 19, 2015VP, HR

Evidera will celebrate it's 2nd anniversary on July 1. We have been very stable for the last two years and have been rapidly re-building the infrastructure that was required of a free standing company. 2015 is expected to be a very successful year and as a result, compensation and bonuses should follow suit. It's disappointing that this review is re-hashing old information and the employee hasn't taken the opportunity to express concerns more constructively. As a company, we hold quarterly Town Hall meetings where we share company goals and progress In addition, we have recently formed a Business Process Improvement team which is looking at eliminating silos and improving efficiencies. We expect this will make doing work much easier for everyone. Finally, voluntary turnover is at a level that is lower than average for our industry and we are actively focused on the retention of key staff.
