I worked at Evolent Health full-time

    Pros

Love, love, loved my co-workers-some of the brightest, most dedicated and passionate minds in healthcare; got some broader experience in value based care programming

    Cons

EVH doesn't seem to know what it wants to be when it grows up; sort of like a kid who sucks at math, never tries to actually get better at math, but is sure he'll grow up and be a Nobel prize winning physicist. The company leadership claims to be communicative but they don't communicate what needs to be said, transparently, and with clarity. Newsletters and quarterly all-hands are nothing if you are just blowing smoke.

    Advice to Management

Start by getting rid of legacy employees from IUH and others who are ineffective extra layers. You had really smart, accomplished people in lower positions who did a great job, but cut them and left the dead weight. It's a shame. You could've been amazing. Now my few friends who are left are miserable and job-seeking. If only you actually lived those values that I heard you once had.

I have been working at Evolent Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Unlimited PTO Great Co-workers Nice office in DT Chicago

    Cons

Very poor executive leadership This company is the healthcare version of the Fyre Festival Extreme micromanagement Lots of turnover

    Advice to Management

Don't hire smart people and then make all their decision for them. Trust your employees and empower them to make decisions.

I worked at Evolent Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    • The staff who worked in the Louisville Passport were highly compassionate, committed, competent, talented, and mission-driven—some of the best in the industry! • Number of PTO days from Evolent was generous. • Great training from HR on behavioral-based interviewing.

    Cons

    (1) Blatant disregard for Medicaid experts in Louisville market: The “partnership” between Evolent and Passport to create a national “Medicaid Center of Excellence” was a cruel joke on Passport. Evolent leadership rushed in, took over, and refused to acknowledge the ideas and recommendations of highly experienced clinical experts and leaders in the market. How on earth do you develop a “Medicaid Center of Excellence”...

    Advice to Management

This is a bit too late now with what’s happened to Passport this summer (massive cashflow problems, layoffs, being bought out by Evolent, and loss of founding CEO)—but here it is: 1. Start by Listening! Listen to market leadership regarding the uniqueness of the Medicaid market population. One size does NOT fit all when it comes to clinical care management programs. 2. Trust and respect your front-line market staff...

I worked at Evolent Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company does some innovative work in value-based care, so there is opportunity to gain experience in those models (if the company stays afloat...).

    Cons

The company mission ("change the health of the nation by changing the way health care is delivered") has always been vague, but they were still able to bring in good clients due to UPMC/Advisory Board connections and brand recognition. Now the downsides of having no articulable mission have come full circle and resulted in a disorganized and directionless company that appears to be sinking. Don't join unless you have...

I have been working at Evolent Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I love most of my colleagues, the ones who remain, that is.

    Cons

Financial distress, lack of communication - the good 'ol boys club runs the show. Yesterday, 6/19, was our 2nd round of layoffs for the calendar year - so we're at about 500 let go to date. Rumor has it there's another round coming in Q3 - so layoffs may be the new norm. Seriously, do not come here unless you want to be in absolute chaos for likely a short amount of time. Any positive reviews lately must be from folks...

I worked at Evolent Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    1. Few people who really want to make an impact with the work they do 2. Noble mission (till it lasted)

    Cons

    1. Executive Leadership - They have no ethics. Everyone is just a number on the balance sheet. Misaligned incentives and the largest number of C-titles in the history of corporate America. A tactic used to keep a select few happy. The only title not yet awarded is Chief Janitor Officer. C-suite not held accountable for the dismal company performance and we are now questioning the role of the Board. Massive layoffs of...

    Advice to Management

Evolent had the opportunity to become something great with the ideas and talent it had gathered. It's unfortunate that you let the company down. Be critical of yourself, get outside of the consulting mindset and be the operator that your clients expect you to be. You need to invest to deliver. Don't trust Valence, they want to do the same things they did for last 12 years and expect different results. People are resorting...

I worked at Evolent Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The salary and bonus structure are great

    Cons

Business partners, clients and regulators are expressing concerns about the company's billing practices of their management fees. News articles have been written about it.

    Advice to Management

Committments to 401K contribution should never be on the cutting board. Improve recruitment planning and business operations model if you want to encourage workforce loyalty/ dedication.

I have been working at Evolent Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good remote work policy, ok salaries

    Cons

Leadership has made a bunch of strategic mistakes lately, which have lead to benefits cutting and layoffs (but no leadership losses . . . ) Arlington employees have 3-4x the bonuses as Chicago employees for the same positions. Meetings will always have 3x the number of people necessary. Processes involve so many teams it's almost impossible to just get things done.

    Evolent Health Response

    April 29, 2019

We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. As you know, Evolent has seen tremendous growth since 2011 and we’ve had to shift some things, to include some of our benefit offerings. With that said, we remain competitive in the market. Please note, no benefits were cut ...

I have been working at Evolent Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Unlimited PTO, work from home options, competitive 401(k) (if it gets funded), C-level leadership seems transparent and accountable

    Cons

This place grew so fast they never bothered to put processes in place. It's unreal how much everything is held together with rubber bands and super glue - you'd expect from a startup but not a "industry leader." Faux leadership, no idea how these people got promoted. Cut benefits and bonuses even when they tell you to your face you're a "star performer."

    Advice to Management

Stop operating like two (more?) separate companies. You literally still have Valence IT and two data warehouses. Process and structure are needed but nobody has the time to spend on developing it. You will not retain any employees you want to keep when you keep slashing benefits after they break their backs for you.

I have been working at Evolent Health full-time

    Pros

Work life balance, PTO, great people, pay

    Cons

So many recent changes that it's difficult to know where to focus as it feels like we are just waiting for priorities to shift again. It's not "fun" to work here any more. No events or team building activities.

    Advice to Management

It sounds so silly, but having no events or team-bonding activities to look forward to throughout the year adds more to the burnout. I wouldn't have thought that those things were that important prior to them being discontinued. Senior Leadership and certain teams within BD or GTM seem to still have funds to do activities -- but the rest of the business, not so much. Senior leaders go on "retreats". That kind of thing...
