I have been working at FCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Extremely employee friendly - employment conditions are very, very good and there are a lot of training and development opportunities.
Massive emphasis placed on diversity and inclusion, even though there’s still more to be done (as pretty much every big organisation).
Real opportunity to make a difference. The FCA is internationally renowned for its work and has a huge impact on how the entire financial services sector operates. Working here you really feel like you can help people in a significant way.
Glossy new building and technology being introduced. It’s about time with the technology, but by August everyone will have a new tablet laptop, a sit-stand desk, and we’re finally properly enabling remote working and going paperless.
Really welcoming and insightful colleagues. The FCA has so many people that really understand their field that you’re never short of someone to explain some bit of financial arcanery to you.
Overall salary package is really strong. If you look past the basic salary, there’s a really good pension and other benefits, plus the bonuses are very good, especially for high performers.
Looks great on your CV. There are so many people who move on to big jobs from here, so it can be a great stepping stone into big banks, etc.

    Cons

The old tech (which is being phased out, see above).
Pretty process-heavy. Even senior leaders recognise the organisation has too many internal sign-offs and could be much quicker. I wouldn’t expect it to be that long before this is addressed, even if it might take a while to change fully.

    Advice to Management

Make decision-making leaner. And keep pushing to break down silos.

I have been working at FCA full-time

    Pros

Excellent work-life balance and a very collegiate place to work
The organisation is generally very supportive of your development and will offer a lot in terms of training, courses, and industry qualifications

    Cons

Flat hierarchy and low attrition means internal progression is slow and can be bias towards external candidates depending on the division
Often frustrating to just get the job done: a lot of bureaucracy at every stage

    Advice to Management

Set a long term plan and stick to it: so much of what we do is reactive and has little relation to our strategic priorities.

I worked at FCA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Interesting work, nice people, genuinely enjoyed my time there.

Enforcement and Market Oversight seems to be the best place for paralegals to get some legal experience!

    Cons

Low base salary and difficult progression if you’re not placed in the right team at the outset. Management has changed so hopefully for the best in terms of giving opportunities to younger employees

I have been working at FCA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great friendly atmosphere and opportunity to learn. Career progression is actively encouraged within the division and organization as a whole.

    Cons

A hierarchical structure means decision making is made up the tree with limited executive power for senior associates. Joining process took forever!

I have been working at FCA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Work life balance - it’s reliably 9-5.
    Flexi-time
    Surrounded by intelligent, driven people
    Obvious social benefit
Great opportunities / systems for learning

    Cons

    Occasionally bureaucratic
    Quiet periods between major cases
IT systems could do with update, but apparently in the pipeline as part of the move to Stratford.

    Advice to Management

For line managers: be clearer about tasking for new starters.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Supportive culture
People believe in what they do
Good working hours and work culture
    Great quality of colleagues
Good senior leadership team for the most part
Good benefits and salary isn't too bad
    Great work life balance

    Cons

Sometimes people are too wrapped up in their job and their view to seek help and give support elsewhere.
Has a strong silo culture, sometimes even in departments. Overall it seems to be known to be an issue but tackling it will be challenging.

    Advice to Management

Continue to get the whole building working together

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Interesting and challenging work
Great people, working hard in the interests of consumers
Great work life balance and lots of flexibility
Competitive salary, and good benefits package including bonus
Exciting opportunity to have a brand new office, and finally some investment in technology

    Cons

Challenging culture, can be slow to get things moving, lots of committees and everyone wants to have a say
Some of the basics don't work well; wifi, conference calls, toilets. ... but improvement promised with the move to Stratford next year.

    Advice to Management

Be clear about expectations of managers, reward and recognise those who role model good leadership - rather than promoting technical skills
