I have been working at FCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Extremely employee friendly - employment conditions are very, very good and there are a lot of training and development opportunities.
Massive emphasis placed on diversity and inclusion, even though there’s still more to be done (as pretty much every big organisation).
Real opportunity to make a difference. The FCA is internationally renowned for its work and has a huge impact on how the entire financial services sector operates. Working here you really feel like you can help people in a significant way.
Glossy new building and technology being introduced. It’s about time with the technology, but by August everyone will have a new tablet laptop, a sit-stand desk, and we’re finally properly enabling remote working and going paperless.
Really welcoming and insightful colleagues. The FCA has so many people that really understand their field that you’re never short of someone to explain some bit of financial arcanery to you.
Overall salary package is really strong. If you look past the basic salary, there’s a really good pension and other benefits, plus the bonuses are very good, especially for high performers.
Looks great on your CV. There are so many people who move on to big jobs from here, so it can be a great stepping stone into big banks, etc.

    Cons

The old tech (which is being phased out, see above).
Pretty process-heavy. Even senior leaders recognise the organisation has too many internal sign-offs and could be much quicker. I wouldn’t expect it to be that long before this is addressed, even if it might take a while to change fully.

    Advice to Management

Make decision-making leaner. And keep pushing to break down silos.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

For a secretary this place is interested in your views

    Cons

    Salary is bad
Too much work for one assistant
Assistants with the right face will get better pay than the ones who are more professional
    Shoddy computer programmes
    Bad processes
Annoying to watch people work less get more money
Annoying to watch lots of other staff googling their life away
HR is really poor and interviews for roles are over the top. As long as you can talk the talk you get the role over someone who can actually do the job,

    Advice to Management

Why do you hire assistants who cannot touch type, who do not have the basic Microsoft skills.

I have been working at FCA part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally great colleagues, willing to help and go the extra mile. Staff all really care about UK consumers. Some very smart people in the building. Benefits package is excellent, particularly the non-contributory 12% I get in my pension and the medical cover on which I have claimed a number of times with no issue. Work life balance respected in almost all areas, in my experience.

    Cons

Can be bureaucratic, slow to make decisions and too many meetings. If they can put a process in, they will! Also there has been a lot of change recently (and continuing) in approach to our work, focus and values, location of our offices and even the technology and people may be starting to get jaded with it all.

    Advice to Management

Cut the processes down, especially the chain of sign off - it creates so much work for the layers down the chain. No more big changes for a while please! Make it easier for good people to get promoted to reward their experience (i.e. there is a need to review pay grade and levels - I think this might actually be happening).

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Staff have good values and attracts people who want to do good for the economy

    Cons

HR is all process with little of duty of care to staff. The governance of the market is the same attitude applied to staff

    Advice to Management

Your HR department is all about process with no focus on care to staff, re-work the senior HR staff who have been there for a few years.
