I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Senior management interaction, high profile work opportunities, variety of work, flexible working, good social life, great people, supportive managers interested in your development

    Cons

Pay, really bad technology, takes forever to move around the building (lifts), don’t deal with under performance (weight of work tends to fall on a few good people)

    Advice to Management

Too much dead weight in the organisation - raise standards, get rid of under performers and pay good staff more

I have been working at FCA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Work life balance - it’s reliably 9-5.
    Flexi-time
    Surrounded by intelligent, driven people
    Obvious social benefit
Great opportunities / systems for learning

    Cons

    Occasionally bureaucratic
    Quiet periods between major cases
IT systems could do with update, but apparently in the pipeline as part of the move to Stratford.

    Advice to Management

For line managers: be clearer about tasking for new starters.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced learning environment and networking opportunities.
A broad idea of the industry and understanding how markets and the work you do effects consumers and firms.

    Cons

    Salary doesn't match workload.
Experience doesnt automatically mean promotion and expertise, unless it's technical, isn't recognised. An overly reliant idea that in order to excel you need to be a public speaker. Doing the job at times doesn't seem like it's enough when it comes to interim and annual reviews.

    Advice to Management

Don't do things just because they've always been done. Be more reactive to change. Not everyone displays professionalism the same way. Focus on attrition, the FCA lose too many people each month/year.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Not as cut throat as industry,
    - Lots of people passionate about doing the right thing,
    - Friendly compared to banks,
    - Good work life balance,
    - Sense that work we do have purpose.

    Cons

    - Lack of diversity from Manager grade upwards,
    - Role is pigeon holed, and no insight into other divisions,
    - Silos
    - Processes and procedures are constantly changing, without consideration for long term embedding or waiting for last process to be implemented
    - Move to Stratford.

    Advice to Management

I'm not sure anything I can say that's not already been said.

    Pros

Excellent team spirit and training opportunities. Varied roles and possibility for development both internally and externally.

    Cons

Like many government departments there can be a tendency to seek decisions by committee rather than an individual basis although that is a minor point.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at FCA part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting and varied work that makes a difference in the real world.
Collaborative working environment and helpful and friendly colleagues.

    Cons

Management and leadership is very poor, overly bureaucratic and managers are not empowered to make decisions. The actual experience does not match the rhetoric in terms of career development opportunities. The organisation does not act in a way that shows it values and wants to retain experienced employees. The career structure does not allow for meaningful progression of people with technical expertise who do not want to be people managers.
The open plan environment without adequate quiet space is not conducive to concentration on the technical issues that the work demands. People are often subject to unreasonable workloads so that work life balance is not possible.

    Advice to Management

Create a career structure that demonstrates you value the technical expertise without which the organisation could not function.
