I have been working at FCA part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally great colleagues, willing to help and go the extra mile. Staff all really care about UK consumers. Some very smart people in the building. Benefits package is excellent, particularly the non-contributory 12% I get in my pension and the medical cover on which I have claimed a number of times with no issue. Work life balance respected in almost all areas, in my experience.

    Cons

Can be bureaucratic, slow to make decisions and too many meetings. If they can put a process in, they will! Also there has been a lot of change recently (and continuing) in approach to our work, focus and values, location of our offices and even the technology and people may be starting to get jaded with it all.

    Advice to Management

Cut the processes down, especially the chain of sign off - it creates so much work for the layers down the chain. No more big changes for a while please! Make it easier for good people to get promoted to reward their experience (i.e. there is a need to review pay grade and levels - I think this might actually be happening).

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some interesting work and some good people. Work/life balance is great. Don't have the same pressures of a money making organisation.
Nice working somewhere with a genuine interest in protecting consumers.

    Cons

A real lack of 'go-getters' in some parts of the company. It's often very obvious that you're working in a quasi public sector company with people reluctant to make decisions and take ownership.
    Office moving to Stratford.
    Limited career opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes suggested changes take a long time to roll out. Top down messaging could be clearer and more concise.

I have been working at FCA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great friendly atmosphere and opportunity to learn. Career progression is actively encouraged within the division and organization as a whole.

    Cons

A hierarchical structure means decision making is made up the tree with limited executive power for senior associates. Joining process took forever!

I have been working at FCA part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting and varied work that makes a difference in the real world.
Collaborative working environment and helpful and friendly colleagues.

    Cons

Management and leadership is very poor, overly bureaucratic and managers are not empowered to make decisions. The actual experience does not match the rhetoric in terms of career development opportunities. The organisation does not act in a way that shows it values and wants to retain experienced employees. The career structure does not allow for meaningful progression of people with technical expertise who do not want to be people managers.
The open plan environment without adequate quiet space is not conducive to concentration on the technical issues that the work demands. People are often subject to unreasonable workloads so that work life balance is not possible.

    Advice to Management

Create a career structure that demonstrates you value the technical expertise without which the organisation could not function.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong sense of purpose; highly capable people who work hard in the public interest; challenging and varied work; supportive colleagues, good work-life balance; competitive benefits package; and great facilities will be on offer in the new office in Stratford.

    Cons

It can be challenging to innovate and deliver with pace due to a low risk appetite, committee-led decision making and lots of bureaucracy

    Advice to Management

The direction of travel is the right one.

    Pros

Great colleagues all wanting to do a good job and are focused on improving the industry
A very diverse mix of colleagues, very representative of London
Having the balls to move away from the safety and sanctity of Canary Wharf to Stratford to mix with normal people who we try and protect.
Good opportunity to secure a better job externally having the regulator badge
Good work life balance, 9-5 applies for at least 60% of the building

    Cons

No real responsibility, autonomy or decision making powers, can feel at times like a glorified well paid administrator
If you are a experienced financial services professional, you are at risk of de-skilling as generally Management are not interested in your previous experiences
Managers and HoDs are obsessed with being over-briefed and not wanting to be unsighted on anything usually related to backside covering

    Advice to Management

You can talk a good game about wanting to improve and become more efficient, but in reality you cannot let go of the detail and control of everything, so actually nothing will change

As for running change projects, get experienced professionals to do this, not inexperienced Associates or Managers who end up delivering little. If this was a firm who did this they would be taken to task, yet recent structural change has been amateur hour at best.
