I have been working at FCA full-time

    Pros

Excellent work-life balance and a very collegiate place to work
The organisation is generally very supportive of your development and will offer a lot in terms of training, courses, and industry qualifications

    Cons

Flat hierarchy and low attrition means internal progression is slow and can be bias towards external candidates depending on the division
Often frustrating to just get the job done: a lot of bureaucracy at every stage

    Advice to Management

Set a long term plan and stick to it: so much of what we do is reactive and has little relation to our strategic priorities.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent calibre of staff at Senior Associate and Technical Specialist Level
All staff have a high level of commitment to the organisation and its mission
    Very interesting work
    Excellent work/life balance
    Inclusive
    CEO leads from the front

    Cons

Middle management is full of careerists and they are constantly in meetings but actually have no ability to manage staff as all decisions taken at senior levels
    Governance process is exhaustingly slow
There is no reward or talent management strategy at all
Silo mentality very bad in some areas

    Advice to Management

The organisation survives on goodwill by those doing the front-line regulatory work - management is in constant meetings that achieve next to nothing practical - get out of the meeting rooms and lead your staff

    Pros

Pay is not bad for public sector
    Good benefits
    Excellent work-life balance
Work alongside intelligent and friendly people
    Excellent training opportunities
If you are inquisitive you can make lateral moves rather than upward moves.

    Cons

    Can be too bureocratic
Internal rifts between divisions can make collaborative working difficult
Many people who have worked there a long time have developed a public sector mentality which impedes changes to improve efficiency or challenge the status quo- but it is trying to change by recent appointments of directors with industry background
Depending on where you work it can be difficult to progress
HR is among the worst I've experienced

    Advice to Management

Have backbone and manage poor performers out
Encourage more secondments out to the industry
Be more open to new ideas so employees are more empowered

    Pros

Interesting work and can make a difference to consumers lives.
    Excellent work life balance

    Cons

    Extremely Poor pay
Poor treatment of staff who have been internally promoted compared to those brought in from external, even though internal staff have excellent knowledge of the processes and are loyal.
Heads of department favour individuals and/or teams.

    Advice to Management

Pay fairly, particularly to internally promoted individuals (stop calling us anomalies)

    Pros

Getting good consumer outcomes is at heart of business which makes it a rewarding place to work. People generally good with a nice culture. Excellent work life balance with up to 38 days holiday, ability to work from home and good hours - 7.25 a day is pretty normal. Work really interesting and get involved in some really high profile projects. Pension and benefit package is good.

    Cons

Very flat structure with little chance of progression, most people leave for this reason and not many stay beyond a couple of years. Pay average and had many years of zero or below average pay increases.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent work life balance, interesting work and genuinely good people to work with. Lack of a profit focus, means work is often less pressurized than elsewhere in the sector - although this can breed complacency amongst some staff.

    Cons

Senior management are sometimes overly bureaucratic and risk averse. Progression is not always as efficient as in other organizations and internal moves / recruitment can be frustrating, as HR requirements make this incredibly slow and inefficient.

    Advice to Management

Internal movement and progression of staff needs to be clearer and more efficient. Less time should be wasted fine-tuning internal governance papers (typically 25% time writing the content and 75% getting it word-perfect - this is not efficient use of people's time.
