I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for sideways moves.
    Mostly nice people.
    Good canteen.
Lots of knowledgeable people to learn from.
Friendly Head of Department who is easy to get along with.

    Cons

Reg As doing the same work as Reg Bs and Reg Cs and not being appropriately rewarded for this.

Confused risk appetite - measures have been implemented in an attempt to improve consistency. Unfortunately we now have a number of guides to assist case officers which don't always marry with each other i.e. one guide will categorise the firm's risk to our objectives on one set of criteria and another guide will categorise the firm on a different set of criteria, each with different results.

A number of long time associates who resist any fresh input and work to undermine newer associates and managers.

    Managers openly undermining each other.

Tiresome relationship with supervision - often feels like we're on opposite teams.

It is too difficult to refuse authorisation to firms - the hurdles are too high. It often feels like you are pushing firms to improve processes with nothing to threaten them with if they refuse.

Silly amounts of administration to close a case - renaming of all emails, recording of risk category, checklists, case notes, manual email confirmations etc.

Director who doesn't seem to have a clue about how difficult the work is on the ground, just wants results!

    Advice to Management

Stop undermining each other. While it's a source of gossip, it's not a good look.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is a really good place to work with lots of opportunities to develop your learning Great benefits, good training opportunities, good work life balance.

    Cons

When compared to equivalent work in the private industry the pay is not particularly good. The chance for significant promotions is limited.

    Advice to Management

To retain staff they should be better rewarded at their end of year appraisals with better pay increases and improved bonus rewards.

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

People are nice; lots of opportunities for interesting work: good work life balance; excellent training; lots of opportunities to move around the organisation and develop a holistic understanding of regulation; new building looks amazing.

    Cons

Pay has not kept up with the times; horribly bureaucratic; very difficult to progress your career if you work hard and you are ambitious; current structure means that half the building works very hard and the other half barely work 9-5

    Advice to Management

Improve salaries and develop a fast track career progression option for the more ambitious employee.

    Limited natural advancement opportunities
Public sector means that it's not the best paid but they do try their best

    Advice to Management

    Concentrate on the end-to-end journey
    Utilise Lessons Learned more
    Address the cons above

    Pros

Good work life balance, interesting work in a large organisation. Lots of opportunities to move across Divisions and get well rounded experience.

    Cons

    Poor salary
Promotion is based a lot on how well you get on with your manager and not on merit
    Salary freezes common
    No opportunities to progress

    Advice to Management

    Address the bureaucracy and politics
Don't waste so much time having meetings about meetings
    Incentivise staff properly to stay
Treat staff with more respect and dignity

I have been working at FCA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits and bonus scheme. Fair appraisal and reward system on the whole (although some senior managers have some odd ideas). Lots of opportunities for those who want them.

    Cons

Hierarchical decision making and too many silos, with people protecting own areas rather than focusing on priorities. Quite a woolly vision coming from the top of the organisation.
